FDX: New "Special Standards" Check Airman

Better get your papers in order...the new "Special Standards" (SS).. oops I mean Fleet Check Airman (FCA), are on their way to ensure everything is in order as the new regime inspects, oops I mean new Organization reviews your Quality assurance to ensure you are doing as you are told...

This whole new organizational makeover has me baffled. Now, I may be wrong...But, up until this change, I've only heard of two fleet captains, ever. Garth of Izar and Christopher Pike.

And, now we're going to have several?? Has anyone passed this by Starfleet command?

Come on up to the 'Ville. Here at Big Brown we have 180 "Fleet Captains"!
Some were even hired last year.

New Hire + Not in Union = Check Airman, only at UPSCO:)

We have LCAs, but apparently they can't ensure "quality" so now our Fleet Captains get their own SS, Gestapo..I mean Fleet Check Airman...so...

"quality check" = discipline

"the beatings will continue until the morale improves"

But at least your guys are line pilots, right? Or, is that somehow a negative in this dynamic?

Well, I wouldn't exactly call them "line pilots". If you are referring to pilot's that get paid for flying scheduled lines. But, they are on our seniority list.

My take on this is good and bad......The good: these guys will most likely be flying on ALL types....not just their fleet specific. So, I have an MD11 guy jumping on the 757 let's say. He will be monitoring safety and FOM stuff, but as far as aircraft specific items, he won't know much. So he's observing how the 757 does stuff and maybe, just maybe, he might say, "I wonder why the mad dog doesn't do it that way?". In other words, an opportunity to observe across the fleet to see what might work best system wide. The bad: In the past if there was to be any disciplinary action made towards a pilot, the company pretty much had to "force" one of the training and standards managers, or one of the SCA/LCA's to be an advisor to management if the discipline involved an aircraft specific problem. Now the company will have it's own management goon to advise the hearing officer (fleet captain) on what the offending crewmemeber may or may not have done correctly. Also, more bad: another set of management eyes watching what we do in AOC, at outlying hubs, on layovers, etc. etc. Strap in ladies in gents, the fun of the reorg is just beginning.

I've been here roughly 5 years and this is the 3rd reorganization that I've seen.

Is it always like this?

If so that means I only have 17 more reorganizations of the company to go until retirement. :-P

 Don't really see the big concern.
I'll probably get flamed but......... How about just conduct yourself IAW the FOM and normal decorum in AOC, hubs, layovers, etc. Then it won't matter who's watching.

What a concept! Goes for a lot of other things as well.
