Default Fedex Experimental?

I overheard yesterday while flying into DFW, "Fedex Experimental 9090 Heavy cleared for the 16 approach (Alliance)."

Were they practicing with the electronic jepps?

Of course, I may have been hallucinating again.

You heard correctly. This airplane is an MD-10 that is assigned to flight test. This week they are running the airplane through a series of tests of the new HUD system. They are doing the testing at AFW.

Thanks! I feel less insane now!

Although I was hoping it was the new Super Jumbo Long Range All-Composite Freighter that Burt Rutan was developing to replace the A3-Ain't.
