FDX Foreign Residency Requirement
I just received this in an email from a buddy of mine:
"Something to think about, I just saw posting in Jetcareers about FedEx/UPS requirements, and among others there is now a US Postal Service requirement for pilots flying the US Mail that states you cannot have lived outside the USA or Territories for more then 6 months in the past 5 years, unless you were in the military, worked for a US company, had a spouse doing either, or were in the Peace Corps or were a Missionary. This means that folks who are going the overseas route to build time in foreign airlines are out of luck if they want to fly for the big boys...and this will probably percolate down to the Majors and Regionals since they fly mail as well. It seems that the powers that be want to keep American pilots on the reservation making slave wages, rather then being paid decently overseas". Thoughts? Is this accurate? |
It's been a FedEx requirement for over 10 years. Required by the USPS to haul the mail.

And the 5 year clock doesn't "reset" until they return to the US. It puts them in a real "Catch 22". |

So is this mostly for the cargo carriers, or if say, you wanted to work at XYZ airlines to get time in type, and then come back and work for Southwest. Assuming that job is still good. I'm on furlough and am getting to the point of going to another country, but I'd hate to not be able to come back.
