DXB Internet

Witopia works well. I bought the annual membership. It has a lot of flexibility vs. some of the free ones. Plus you can add the VPN to your smart phone and Skype from it. Some of the free services work and some don't. Witopia works in China also. I've found some of our hotels in China seem to allow internet access and others have areas clamped down. They also know the server ID's for a lot of the free VPN services. Witopia allows you to change to 3 different VPN configs and a ton of servers around the world. The free services tend to use PPTP. Read the statement below:
From the beginning there were two services: Personal, which always included PPTP and now includes ipsec and L2TP and Pro which was twice the price and included OpenVPN. Both are secure but Personal is more easily blocked by governments or corporations as they can usually detect the protocol.

Second vote for Witopia from me. I have used it all around the World on my Macbook, iPad and iPhone and never had an issue (works on Mac and PC). Works great for getting Skype, Netflix, BBC Iplayer etc to work as you can use Servers in most countries.

I just left DXB yesterday and had no problem using Skype. I used it on my iPhone in the lobby on the hotel wifi and in my room on my laptop using the ethernet via my Airport Express. Also, no issues with Google Voice either!

Witopia, Yes !! Worth the price for the peace of mind. I use all the time for all things work, business, financial and private stuff to keep such things from prying eyes.
Think the DXB prohibition is on buying credit, not on using the service.

I haven't been to Dubai in a while, but used to have problems with skype. I used a program called Hotspotshield and it seemed to work. If you download this program, be careful, it will try to lure you into changing your browser...

FWIW, I never had a problem with Skype when going computer to computer. The issue always seemed to be calling a land line. I used Hotspotshield, but you have to make sure it's the most updated version. It's a cat and mouse game. I know others have used other VPN services, some free, some not.
