Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I have a piggyback question.
What happens if the home is not base. I.e. I live in AUS but am based in MEM and want to go to ABQ, can I book a ticket from AUS to ABQ as long as it's within 3 days of a trip/sby/trng?
I have gotten mixed answers from people & sec 8.C.3.A.i seems to imply the purpose of deviation is to let you deviate from a trip. i.e. it somehow involves your trip city or to or from base. Just trying to avoid running afoul of the man on this!
Thanks for any advice

8.C.3.a.i.(b) deviation from scheduled deadhead travel.
You will get different answers here. Suggest you email the union.

Within 3 days of an activity you can go from base to anywhere, anywhere to base, back-end DH location to anywhere, or anywhere to front-end DH location. Not sure if anywhere to anywhere is OK. Call the exp report folks; they always are great at giving answers to specific situations.

FFDO training is at least supported by FedEx.....still, what I think your question is would put me in a place I don't want to be. FOX will allow it if you meet the hoops, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily the "right" thing.
My assumption is that you have a non-DH trip that ends in Memphis Friday'sh. You J/S home to XXX. Then on Sunday buy a ticket to ABQ. That certainly meets all the hoops for a FOX expense report.
But is different than having a DH trip end at YYY-then buying a ticket to ABQ.
OR, alternatively, buying a ticket from ABQ-Home (delay less than 24 hours) then a ticket to PHL and back to work following the end of your FFDO training.
Comparable end of training scenario would be ABQ-Home- J/S to work 36 hours later--would likely meet the FOX computer criteria
But is it the "right" thing to do

His question isn't is it morally correct, but is it contractually correct.
How many times have we as a group heard, "Sorry, I hear what you are saying but you need to try and get that changed in the next contract" to things we deem not in the spirit of the wording.
I'm not saying to take advantage, but if it meets the parameters, there is nothing wrong with it.

Whenever the company and our Negotiating Committee finally hammer out a rolling 3-month travel bank for the rest of the pilots like they've started to do for the CGN folks, THEN I won't feel bad about legally squeezing every last $ out of my travel bank for a given month. Last month I'm out big bucks because AA first-class approved fare to/from Europe is only $2200, and I chose to deviate. (And I'm fine with paying out-of-pocket for that privilege). But if this month I stay $1500 in the positive (due to other deviating choices), that all resets to zero at the end of the month. So I repeat your question back....Is that the right thing to do?
As they say on Monday Night Countdown, "C'mon man!"
