Hey guys, any suggestions on getting the written out of the way? The All ATP's school is a one day course for $279 (includes the test). Or there are various study courses for $60 - $100, and then pay $70 to take the test at a test center?

I didn't know if it really makes any difference when it comes to the application process. Thanks for the info.

You used to be able to take the test at an FAA office for free. Has that changed? I did the ATP course and test. It worked out good for me, I would recommend it but if you are trying to do it on a budget, I'm sure there must be a cheaper way.

Regards,

Mark

I used ATP for my FEw. It's a good program and served me well but it's too damn expensive in my opinion. It doesn't matter where or how you get it done as long as you score a good grade...high 90% preferred for the resume.

The All ATP program worked for me. There are cheaper alternatives but I gave the FEw one day of my time and scored well.

It makes no difference how/where you test, as long as you pass (and score in the 90s, or so I'm told). Good luck.

Buy the Gleim book and computer study guide. Keep taking practice tests until you score consistently in the range you want then take the test. I'm too lazy to learn how to do every single calculation and formula problem, so I tried to memorize them. Its been a long time since i took mine, I do remember trying to memorize some formulas then wrote them on the scratch paper as soon as I sat down. Most of the Faa crap you don't need. The airline will train you in ground school.

So basically FedEx isn't expecting you to have knowledge on the 727 or any other aircraft with figures on the test when you arrive on property? I just don't want to get burned by running to ATP for the day and taking th test. Thanks

Nope. In fact, more than likely it's better if you don't know squat about the equipment that they assign you to fly. That way they can teach you to do things the way that they want you to do them.

I came to FDX and the 727 with a lot of 727 experience. There were several other guys in my class who were also experienced on the airplane. We spent a lot of time looking at each other and asking "Why the hell do they want to do it THAT way?"

If you really want to spend $279, have at it, but I bought study software from these guys:

http://www.sheppardair.com/

I think they charged $75 for the software, and then you go pay $80 or so to take the test at a computer test center. In a long afternoon, you can study enough to ace the thing.

As long as you have the piece of paper that says FE turbojet on it, that's all Fedex cares about.

I used the Gleim software which cost me about $60-70 bucks (cant remember exactly). I did very well on the test and didnt have any surprises. However, there were a lot of questions to review...probably 700-800. I've heard of a few other places that have question banks with half that amount in it but I dont know how good they are.

Good luck

This site has test banks for $30. There are a little over 700 questions/answers/ and explanations for the FEx test. There are alot of functions for picking and choosing what you want to focus your studies. If you are doing your ATP as well, they have a bundle package for sell. I used this for my ATP written and am using it now to study for my FE. I also use their logbook and am pleased with it.
