Holiday ties - FDX

Any problem wearing a Christmas tie this month? Wasn't sure if this was declared a no-no.

Chuck Turpen 12-04-2012 08:28 AM

Only if you wear it with the blouse!

Not at all! You'll see a lot of Santa hats too. Merry Christmas!

I heard the chief pilot say specifically that he didn't like Christmas ties, patriotic ones either. If you haven't caught on, he very much likes a "standard" appearance when in uniform. But as far as I know there has been no announced ban on either.

Uh oh! After making that statement, there are a certain number of folks making a mad dash to don their Christmas ties just for the Chief Pilot.

Probably already grasping them and flipping them upwards and outwards in eager anticipation of that jolly old elf seeing them. :D

I too have noticed how much better I fly in the companies tie versus my patriotic tie on the 4th or Veterans day.

In fact, now that I think of it, I have to admit as Christmas approaches and I don a festive tie....I must be inherently unsafe. It would be in the companies interests if they just removed me from my Christmas trip with pay and have me resume my flying schedule when I go back to the company tie.

Busboy 12-04-2012 10:49 AM

My crew always tells me how dashing I look in my Kwanzaa tie.

I think captains are supposed to call us and tell us which tie to wear....

RhinoPherret 12-04-2012 11:01 AM

Now, this is serious business running a cargo airline.
You want to dress up all fancy like and run about looking like the town-fool, go work for SWA!

Be back all the earlier tomorrow morning or you will be sacked. Humbug!

UPS thread creap

Funny how the hat police at Brown loosen up during Christmas. For the past 20 years + our Flight Ops Admin department sells custom Christmas ties for uniform wear. For $25 you can get an unusually ugly tie with proceeds benefiting the Angel Tree.

I'm talking about seriously ugly ties some years! This years is BLACK with front end silhouettes of each aircraft type in white. A few years ties have actually been well done, actually festive. Not this years.

Can you say, "Tool?" Where do we get these guys?

tomgoodman 12-04-2012 02:16 PM

Money-saving tip: buy a green tie, and you're all set for St. Patrick's Day as well! :D

Only the women pilots get to wear the Christmas tie???

Dadof6 12-04-2012 08:11 PM

Wore my festive tie in MEM AOC last Sunday, and was surprised to see no one else was celebrating the holidays like we've done (at least) the last 7 years. C'mon man--you folks don't need an FCIF to tell you that holiday ties are authorized between Thanksgiving and New Years Day, do ya?

appDude 12-04-2012 08:17 PM

And the Christmas tie goes well with the red and green Christmas epaulets.

The Walrus 12-04-2012 08:21 PM

I think you should all wear a pretty bow in your hair for Christmas, and Easter.

TonyC 12-04-2012 09:13 PM

Uniform ties during the holidays make me sick. ;)

"I'm a 32%er" tie? ;)

The Walrus 12-05-2012 07:49 PM

I wear holiday socks.

ANCFRTDG 12-06-2012 12:41 AM

Glad to see we can all have a good laugh at ourselves and our work environment. Just heard that the CP told a bunch of guys and gals during Koolaid school that hoildy ties were only authorized the week before Christmas????
No FCIF so hows a holiday celebrating, but not at home kinda guy, supposed to know?????

RhinoPherret 12-06-2012 03:40 AM

Definitely have to maintain control of the troops when it comes to holiday ties.
Set those defined timelines and keep them short and to the point.
Ties have definitely brought many a company to its knees.
I am CP! I must maintain CONTROL!

Betting the good old CP also sits on a HOA board, seems the type.

Gunter 12-06-2012 04:54 AM

Just read PC's message. Flt Management canceled Christmas this year.

No Holiday Fun??? Great way to reach out to the crew force.

MeXC 12-12-2012 07:28 AM

OK, so I'm reading "Tales from the Dark Side" or some such link from the PFC homepage. The picture of him there is Will Ferrell with straight hair.
The actions and decrees are pure Bill Lumbergh, though.
