Retirement Numbers
 

Does anyone have numbers for their respective companies regarding retirement numbers?

John does a great job here giving "mandatory" retirements for most of the airline profiles. What I am looking for is this: I hear over and over, if retirement pay were higher, then I would be out of XYZ company. Or I cannot wait to retire at 60. Is this actually happening? How long after 60 are pilots sticking around? Looking for data at ANY company.

Someone also posted on the B&G that the retirement age will soon be raised to 67. Like its a foregone conclusion. Anyone hear more on this one?

I was just looking to see if there is any validity to comments I hear over and over.....if retirement was better, I would be gone. I don't see it.

Top of the seniority. Choice trips. Lots of of vacation.......etc....etc.

I know there are people that track this stuff. Hoping they would share some numbers.


FedEx would be an awesome place to work. UAL? Don't know too many happy people over there. If however I have another career, it will not be flying airplanes:D.

You might want to look here, there's a thread in the Major Airline section about retirement numbers, and us cargo haulers are listed also. No sure if the FedEx or UPS numbers are accurate.

Supposedly, the new average age at retirement for FDX is 62.

The bad news... before the age change it was 57. Here's why - 25% of the pilot force was losing their medical before 60.

Same thing now. Healthy pilots are mostly all staying to 65.

I have a list like this. There is also one listed on the "Airline Profiles" section. Those are the mandatory numbers. I am looking for the real numbers. That is a good discussion though. I hardly venture from the Cargo section.

Early retirement at UPS is 55. Normal is 60. I believe FedEx is the same. Not sure about other carriers. There are very few leaving at 55. I personally know a couple that left before 60 when the company offered a "no penalty" buyout when they were looking to reduce the number of pilots through voluntary and non voluntary means!:mad:


I believe unless you have a medical issue, most will stay as long as possible. Why not? Choice schedules. Lots of vacation.

Just wondering what direction the "pilot shortage" will lead our elected officials to go. If it does go to 67, 70, 85, 110......whatever. I would like to call BS when I hear a senior pilot tell me "I would leave early or on time if our retirement plan were better". Almost like its my fault??

I agree. Staying healthy in this jobs is the key.
