Quote: Not all hotels overseas are nice.
Nice is a subjective term. I think a more accurate statement is, most overseas hotels are not significantly better than most of the places we stay in the domestic system. Obviously there are exceptions that fall outside the norm.

In my opinion, the deviations on the low side of the scale are probably in the US and those on the high end are probably international. It's hard to go with a "name brand" hotel outside the US without getting a pretty high quality property with the corresponding amenities.

You must be staying at different hotels in Asia than I am. Most places I stay are "normal size" and a few are much better. I could complain more about the OAK Harbor Court room size than most of the Asia hotels I stay in.
Normal = ICN, NRT, KIX, HKG, TPE, PVG, PEN
X-large = CAN, SIN, PEN (sometimes)

I once got the Royal/Presidential Suite in DBX during a 3 day layover - It was a 2-story suite about the size of 6-7 rooms with a spiral staircase, a conference table, bar and a grand piano!

I would say NRT is very small, KIX is even smaller, CDG is dinky (sight seeing makes up for this though), CGN is small, DXB is in constant renovation, OAK is small depending on the hotel. My def. of very small: cannot both open your suitcase and walk anywhere in the room at same time. Forget trying to do pushups unless one throws the suitcase on the bed.

CAN smells of constant industrial fumes, or whatever the factories are pumping out that day. Free Booze and Food help distort the lung disease incursion. Cannot wait for us to leave this place: horrible controllers, immigration delays, industrial pollution, mediocre food. Yuck!

Haven’t been getting the large rooms in PEN lately. But the sandy beach makes up for that!

New hotel in TPE not bad. A bit more effort to get to Taipei 101. Rooms good size.

Now, if the hotel committee could make sure the windows open in hotels we stay at. Nothing like a bit of fresh air (CAN excepted).

I don't disagree with most of your complaints, especially when it comes to China. However, you opened quite a few "sections" over and above your original comparison of a Germantown closet and Asia rooms. Your room size complaints have now gone quite a bit further west than what I normally call Asia.

Let's complain about the Harbor Court in SFO some more so we can have all our layovers downtown OAK. Idiotic.

Yeah I don't quite get that. We could be out in Emoryville next to the mall...
