Seriously? 800 qualified as in "meet the mins" qualified or "really competitive flew the space shuttle" qualified?

Maybe finally hiring pilots with wide-body experience...

Question: What is qualified by this metric? Heavy Intl experience. Or 5000 hr. RJ driver? UPS is my dream job, but the biggest thing I can get into maxes out at 53131 lbs :(. I just came back from the ATL AirInc conference and I think EVERY attendee stoped by both the UPS and FDX booth. 800 seems a bit low considering the line to speak to the recruiters.

I wasn't in there so don't shoot the messenger, but my buddy quoted P.D. as saying 800 qualified applicants. What that means, I don't know, but I would guess it's meet the min's applicant. 1000 turbine PIC.

Thanks

If I have a choice it would be the MD-11/767/757/A-300 in that order. Trying to get a aircraft system logic as that of the C-17. To many airplane numbers running around in my head.

However, I think I would like the week on week off schedule?

Go figure

Congrats on the class date! Welcome to our family. :)

As for your question, it all depends on your commuting preferences. Do you want to only commute once a pay period (1 into SDF, 1 out of SDF), or do you not mind maybe 2 commutes a pay period? To help you out: pay period = 28 days. If you want to limit how many times you need to commute, you want an international a/c, i.e. MD11, SDFZ, 747, A300. If you like the week on/week off type schedules, go for 757 Dom., DC8, 727, A300. Here at UPS, the logic is to bid what you want to fly. All FO,FE seats pay the same, no matter what you fly. The int'l folks do get a higher per diem and hourly override.

Hope this helps!

Commuting

TDawg,
Welcome to the family! FWIW, if you get the MD as a new hire, pack warmly. You will almost certainly be going to ANC. Unless you want to move there, do anything you can, short of screwing your buds, to get a different plane. ANC is a great place, but it might not be so wise to try and commute that far as a probie. UPS takes a very dim view of first year folks missing flights, and you won't have any sick accrued for commuting emergencies. Just my .02$ If you do get the MD, however, make sure you buy the training CD they offer. Its the best 10$ study guide out there. Good Luck and see you on the line.

For all those hopefulls out there. Got a call for an interview next month. 5700TT 2300PIC all in Turbo-prop. No heavy or Intl. time. 1 LOR on file. In the system for 2 years. I went to the job fair in Atlanta and spoke with Phil D., and I beleive that is what made the difference. Good luck to all.
