Default UPS Class Date

Received my hire letter 2 weeks ago, received a call yesterday for a 14 December class, contingent on background and pee test. Any word on the drop for that class? Also, if I have a choice what is the best airplane for a commute from ATL?

Default Congrats!

Congrats on the class date! Welcome to our family.

As for your question, it all depends on your commuting preferences. Do you want to only commute once a pay period (1 into SDF, 1 out of SDF), or do you not mind maybe 2 commutes a pay period? To help you out: pay period = 28 days. If you want to limit how many times you need to commute, you want an international a/c, i.e. MD11, SDFZ, 747, A300. If you like the week on/week off type schedules, go for 757 Dom., DC8, 727, A300. Here at UPS, the logic is to bid what you want to fly. All FO,FE seats pay the same, no matter what you fly. The int'l folks do get a higher per diem and hourly override.

Hope this helps!

Last I saw posted on here was that it is an all MD-11 class.

I heard today it's 5 MD's and 10 Z's. Don't hold me to it though.

Showing my ignorance here, but what is a "Z"

P.S. Welcome, fellow Freight Dog! I hope that your career is full of nothing but ups. No pun intended

A "Z" is the international 767 category out of SDF. Also heard that UPS is upping it's hiring forecast to around 600 pilots next year. Don't know if they can handle that kind of volume in the training center however.

The guys that go off to 747-400 training in Denver should free up some room at the training center.

I also heard from someone that started class yesterday that Phil Donahue said they want to be at 3080 on the seniority by the end of next year, and that there are only 800 qualified applications on file
