Report: Southern Air headquarters headed to CVG

Jan 21 2013 21:41 EST
by Kelly Taylor

HEBRON, KY (FOX19) -
Air cargo carrier company Southern Air plans to relocate its Norwalk, Connecticut headquarters to the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport, according to the New Haven Register.

The Connecticut paper cited an email sent to Southern Air employees last week from the company's chief executive officer, Dan McHugh.

In the email, McHugh revealed, "Moving to ... makes a lot of sense for us, and will offer Southern Air many benefits. First, CVG is a logical base of operations for our 777 aircraft and represents our single largest hub of activity. It is also one of three global hubs for DHL Express, our largest customer."

The New Haven register also reports that Southern Air filed a notice with state labor officials, saying it will lay off 120 people in March. However, in the email McHugh said some employees will be offered jobs in Cincinnati.

Southern Air plans to be fully relocated by April, with some minor functions remaining in Norwalk, CT until the end of May.
