Default FDX - Cologne: Where to live

So where are the crew members based in CGN living? Are most living in the Cologne area or are people choosing DUS, FRA or somewhere in between? Anyone have any ideas that may be worth checking out when I visit Germany this summer.

Thanks for the info.

If you are a FDX pilot, join the CGN FB page. Great info available that many prefer not to post on an open forum like APC.

Most guys with school-aged children are living in the Bonn area, south of Cologne. They have access to a couple of international schools there. A few empty nesters, and families with young children, are living closer to or in Cologne itself.

Plenty of great options for living in Cologne. If one is looking for a larger home and more room, then Bonn and suburbs out of town are best. If you have a small family and can adapt or are used to, condo living, then Cologne has many great "quarters" to choose from.

I agree with Lindy, join the fb page for a wealth of info on all subjects relating to the CGN base.

I sat next to PC at Captain's Course dinner and explained that I would have loved to bid CGN, but wanted to live SE of MUC. (Great skiing in Alps with quick access to MUC airport and trains for commuting) but it far exceeded the 100nm restriction in FDA section of contract to receive housing allowances. PC "assured" me that I could get a waiver and get the $.

1 month later, the HKG 4 story hit the wires. Needless to say, I'm glad I didn't take his word and bid CGN under such flimsy assurances.

All this fuss about 100 miles, but look at the bid pack - just about all the trips are double deadheads. You could live anywhere in Europe and it wouldn't matter.

I don't think he was worried about getting to work, I think the LOA states that you have to live within 100 miles to get the housing money.

That's my point - WHY does the LOA say you have to live within 100 miles (+ inside Germany)? You could live in Paris, London or Amsterdam and it would cost the company less to deadhead you.

Control. It's about control. And, having bodies in domicile. To control.

And, if we'd have agreed to what you're asking...We only would have got 2%.
