Fdx - iPad questions

Yup. not a mac-guy so maybe one who is can help.

On my PC, I can save a picture (.jpg) of my egrid and create a shortcut to it. That way when I login, when it prompts me for it, I hit the shortcut and get the info off the egrid. Can someone tell me how to do that with an iPad?

Also, I would like to download and save the .pdf versions of the various user guides available on the pilot website for the iPad, Flitedeck Pro, etc. How is that done? All I seem to be able to do is bookmark them which does me no good if I'm not online and logged into PFC.

Thanks from a current iPad hater  - help me make it not so.

Try pressing the sleep button (on top) and the round button on the bottom center simultaneously. That will take a "picture" of the screen and store it with your photos. At my fractional company, I've found it useful in training, especially for certain charts in the AOM. I'm not an Apple guy either, but after using the iPad for almost a year, it's becoming second-nature.

Open the App AirWatch SCL, log in, there will be a Content column on the left. Under Content are 3 headers, Views, Repositories, and User Content. Under Repositories tap AirWatch Content. You will get Views and Categories - Airbus, B727, B757/B767, B777, Company, EFB/iPad Training, MD10/11, Reference.

Look around in each one, you see appropriate content. Tap one that you want to open, if its not already downloaded to your iPad inSCL, it will give you and Download confirmation pop up window. Tap Yes. Alternatively, you can tap the little rectangle and arrow in the upper right corner of the content window and download all.

Once an item is downloaded onto your iPad in SCL, and open, look for the same rectangle and arrow in the upper right corner of the document. Tap it and the document slides left exposing some more icons. Most are self explanatory. If you want to reopen that document into GoodReader (if it is installed) tap the Open Into icon (document icon with arrow).

Semi related....I haven't opened my IPad shipping container yet and have training here early July. Do I need to bring the IPad and be proficient with it for my CLOE?

Didn't really budget the time required to get up to speed on integrating IPad ops. Anyone else with training here soon?

Just went through CLOE and not yet required. Although, it is the future for everything related to training, they mentioned that of course. Any time you put into figuring it out might be worth it. If you're already somewhat comfortable with the airplane's Jepp EFB, the iPad Jepps will be easy, much clearer to read, you can cut and paste route from flight plan into Jepp route, etc... We haven't received ours yet, but we had a chance to play with the flex's one. A HUGE improvement from the EFB.

Don't have the companies iPad yet, but any time you down load a PDF in safari, you should have the little square with arrow in the upper rt corner, if not a open in I books or good reader prompt. Hit that and it goes to whatever reading app you're using.

Definitely get it set up and take it with you. Your instructor should be able to help you with any questions and hopefully show you how to use it during the brief.

From another iPad hater. (It's for that iTime of the month  )

Go to the App Store and download the FREE Adobe Reader application.

Use Safari to navigate to the .pdf file you want to save. When you click on the hyperlink, the document will open in a separate tab. As soon as it loads, you will see two black buttons in the upper, right-hand corner of the screen. Depending on what other apps you have installed, the first will say Open in "Adobe Reader" and the second will say Open in...
If your first is Adobe Reader, great. If not, choose the second, and it will drop down a box with icons representing all the apps you have installed that might open a .pdf. Choose Open in Adobe Reader from that box.

Of course, you probably won't be quick enough to make the choice before those black buttons disappear. Simply touch the screen anywhere on the page, and they'll reappear.

Once you have the document in the Adobe Reader App, you can rename it, organize documents into folders, etc.

As MD11Fr8Dog explained in his second post, you can also "move" documents from the AirWatch SCL (FOM, airplane manuals, etc.) to the Adobe Reader by using the Open Into option. That will be particularly helpful if you want to save a copy of FOM Revision 50 when Revision 51 comes out. The old stuff will be removed from the SCL (Secure Content Locker), but it will remain where it is if you have opened it with Adobe Reader.

Yeah, this stuff is so intuitive, I don't know why I didn't change years ago. :D Funny, it always seems the people asking computer questions are asking how to do something with an Apple product.

Speaking of which, I have a question of my own. How can I use Company webmail on the iPad to attach a file? When I try to attach a file, there's no way to navigate to find the file I want to attach.
