Does anyone have any info besides the single line in a CNN Story? Because there's alot of conjecture here about what I heard was an aircraft just getting stuck in the snow as it turned off. It was on the line and on the taxiway, just unable to move with out at a reasonable thrust setting and since the taxiway wasn't plowed the tug couldn't get any traction.

Airport Authority spokesperson stated that the left main and nose wheel were off the taxiway, in the mud...

No matter what happened with the aircraft, we have a problem when pilots start implying that, if you were a real man, you would have flown in those conditions. That is not a responsible statement no matter how you look at it.

That Captain Mark has his nerve defending his company and not just lying there and taking it like a, well, insert politically correct statement here.

It's a message board for crying out loud. I'm sure if Captain Mark were hauled in front of the standards dept he'd sing a different tune. As would 99% of the pilots at FDX. It's just locker room type chest thumping. Now, take off your skirt, get your panties unbunched, and lighten up.

This is not a simple observation. Somebody made an error in judgement of safety here, and trying to play it off as a "real man" decision is almost more irresponsible than deciding to go 4 wheeling through snow drifts in the first place. Obviously if "you could not tell where the taxi way was, and the tug got stuck too", then somebody made a boo boo. I am not casting judgement on the flight crew as I was not there, but trying to justify their decision as being a "manly" one, is just not correct.

Seriously though, I just talked to a friend who was on-board (in the back) a Horizon Q400 involved in an overrun in SEA today. Doesn't sound fun for the crew no matter which uniform you're wearing. Winter ops are here, slow down, plan ahead, avoid extra paper work. Be careful out there folks. |
Its not just this accident. Its subic,SAN,newark, and on and on and on. If I were Fred Smith I'd be "holding my breath and hoping" everynight. Sounds like weather is the excuse for every incident.
