In what year did UPS start using ONT as a pilot domicle?

January 1998 it became a domicile. Before that it was always a fast growing gateway. ONT flys most of the west coast domestic trips, HNL, and Asia trips as far west as CGN Germany. Rarely does an ONT crew do a north atlantic crossing. Kinda a senior base for Captains.:D

Are ONT crews legal to do North Atl. crossings?

I got trained for it but I think you would actually have to go with a checkairman and get line checked in the Atlantic the first time. Correct me if I am wrong please but that is my understanding.

Are most of the trips in ONT week on/ week off. Also do you guys still have out and back trips and how senior do they go? Thanks.

I think you only have to fly with a captain who is qualified/current in the Atlantic since you have had the training.

I don't believe I am.

If you've flown as a Captain on ANY aircraft across the north atlantic, you ARE qualified. One ONT Captain was rescheduled to operate CGN-PHL, and when he asked, he found out he WAS qualified from his days on the DC8 many years prior. UPS has its OWN company policy that used to require you to fly a NA crossing in your AC type.

PS. the ONT Captain insisted on having a check airman accompany him on the flight, and the company did just that.:o
