FDX - Dr. note for sick?
I heard a rumor that management is sending notifications when you go sick to get a doc note or you'll get a letter in your file.
Supposedly these people (several who have gotten the notification) haven't been sick more than 2-3 times in the last year and didn't go sick on one of the holidays in the contract. Anyone else hearing this? |
From FAA website:
i. PERSONAL CHECKLIST. I'm physically and mentally safe to fly; not being impaired by: Illness Medication (includes OTC) Stress Alcohol Fatigue Emotion If you answer YES to any of these - you are not fit to fly! I would speak with ALPA before responding to the company request. |

Called in sick twice last year, last one was September, no note.
What is the letter in the file going to say? - Pilot called in sick and used his contractually awarded sick bank. |
I haven't heard that but I am not going to change my mind about being sick just because they want a note. In fact, it may very well take a few more days to get that said note for them. Either way, not changing. Same thing when I call in fatiqued. Just because a duty officer ask me " wouldn't I prefer to call this sick".... uhhh, no.

PFC must be listening....from the Dark Side

Have not. Perhaps out of almost 5K pilots, they have a "good faith, objective reason to question" it every now and then. Or, the pilot has requested to utilize his disability sick account in accordance with section 14.D.2.a.
Upon further review and discussion it appears it may only be directed at reserve bubbas... |
Maybe pilots are sick because the "dark hole or dark side" doesn't want them wearing their warm comfy parka.

Calling in Sick
They looked at the statistics of us calling in sick... I took a few courses on the subject-statistics usually only tell you what you want to believe, not always the truth! When we have a crew force that I think averages north of 52 years old and we are working harder than ever what do they think will happen? Last time I checked I am not as healthy as I was 20 years ago even though I work out everyday and watch what I eat.
What we do is a dangerous and difficult job, if you are not healthy and mentally ready to get in the cockpit, call in sick! Do not make the other pilot drag you around the world! |
I'm just sick of flying crappy trips!
