Just a word of advice. Commuting to ANC is HELL! You'll be competing with FedEx, NWA and Alaska pilots for a limited number of jumpseats. And Alaska pilots will have the trump card because you're offline. CASS? Sometimes, but AS loads are pretty heavy uniformly throughout the year with a small break in late January/early February and again in October. The tourists have discovered the Great Land and the winter seats are filled with locals escaping the cold weather.

Bid ONT/SDF if you have the choice.

UNFORTUNATELY UPS doesn't give you a choice your first year ...

[QUOTE=Archie Bunker;94914]

I'm pretty sure that I'll be in a January class at Brown, and I'm guessing I'll get MD-11s somewhere.

Did you get called yet for a class??? And as for choice. I got to bid for a base and seat/aircraft and got my first pick on all three when I was called for a class.

UPS is finding it is much easier to get ONT crews positioned in Asia (extended deadhead). Look for a growing ONT domicile as SDFZ goes stale, at least for a while. Just another rumor floating around...

Well, I hope I'm as lucky as you were concerning the domicile choice.

I'm still waiting for the instructions on where to take the drug screening.

Archie - I've been driving the FDX MD11/10 between oak- anc for quite a few years now and never had more than two jumpers(at least 4 seats) on board. OAK 3 AM departure sucks, but it is nonstop and no SEA hassles. There is a SAT 4PM flight also. Most of us say "fill'r up" for anyone needing a ride.

I would love to based in ONT on the 75/767.....that would mean no commute, but I have a funny feeling that a MD-11 is in my future....and that probably means ANC or SDF for the first year. At any rate, it looks like SDF is the hands down winner between the two for a potential commuter, like me.

Thanks again,
Arch

who says anything about commuting on AS?

If the guy is either FDX or UPS, he'll most likely will just ride on his own carrier where he can reserve a seat.
