Five aircraft will be added starting in late March and culminating in August 2014
New flights will service the US, Latin America and the Caribbean as part of a multi-year agreement
March 06, 2014 12:11 PM Eastern Standard Time
PLANTATION, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DHL, the world’s leading international express provider, is adding five Boeing 737-400 aircraft to expand its service routes within the Americas as part of a multi-year service agreement with US cargo carrier Southern Air. The aircraft will provide delivery to routes in a fuel-efficient manner, in keeping with DHL’s Go Green commitment to environmental protection.
The five aircraft will be rolled out during the first half of 2014, expanding the fleet already in place along key growing trade routes in the Americas. “Right now we are planning to get the first aircraft in service in early April and the last one by August 1,” said Red Alexander, Vice President of Aviation for DHL Express Americas. “There will be two aircraft based in Venezuela and three aircraft in the U.S.”
Current planned routes include flights from Caracas (CCS), Venezuela, to Barbados (BGI) and Trinidad and Tobago (POS) in the Caribbean, as well as from Caracas to Bogota (BOG), Colombia, and Panama (PTY). In the United States, the new aircraft would add flights from the Cincinnati Hub (CVG) to several cities along the Northeast and Midwest, including Philadelphia (PHL), Hartford (BDL) and St. Louis (STL).
“Southern Air continually strives to provide its growing, blue-chip client base with reliable, efficient, flexible solutions that best suit their needs,” said Southern Air’s Chief Executive Officer, Daniel J. McHugh. “We highly value our collaboration with DHL and will continue to enhance our fleet and air cargo capabilities in order to offer DHL safe, reliable and fuel efficient air lift at competitive costs.”
For DHL Express, the expansion of its network through the introduction of these new aircraft is part of its ongoing commitment to expand its global capabilities and improve its customer service through a significant investment program into infrastructure, its employees and its brand. The continued investment in fuel-efficient aircraft also underscores DHL’s Corporate Social Responsibility commitment to environmental protection by improving our CO2 efficiency. DHL Express and Southern Air also recently announced a multiyear extension of their existing four-aircraft, around-the-world operation of the advanced, fuel-efficient Boeing 777 Freighter.

So. When are they going to start selling the next concession LOA to "save the jobs?" It worked so well the last time. I think they will try for more this time. Test the desperation level. Is that why they gave so much lead time?

ABX cancelled the latest furlough.
ABX and the 1224 ABX EXCO are currently in negotiations about the next contract renewal.
There are still many furloughed ABX pilots hoping for a recall. I believe most active pilots at ABX are not even aware that there is still a long list of furloughees wanting to return.
Recall rights for will start to expire in 2015.
Many of the furloughees were denied the opportunity by trickery perpetrated by the management while new hires were inappropriately hired. The new hires were not to blame but the union did nothing to protect the rights of the furloughees at that time.
The union should negotiate terms to help the furloughed pilots recover from the harmful actions of management and the neglectful actions of the union.
Unfortunately, the Union and the active employees recognize that "THEY" are better off if the furloughees are allowed to drop off the recall list. That will allow the company to adjust their pricing down to reflect their ability to employee new pilots at first year pay. The current active members see this as a benefit because it will allow the company to be more competitive based on the cheap labor that can then support the bloated pay and continue to support their retirement. It will also help the company compete against other carriers. The management goal is to eliminate the recall list and the actions of the union indicate that is also their goal.

Unfortunately all of the DHL ABX 767 flying is up for contract renewal over the next year or so I have been told. I do not see a bright future at ABX as DHL whipsaws heavy lift providers. I do not see how ABX can compete with the much much lower payscales of the the other ACMI carriers out there who are looking for additional business to cover the loss of military transport. It is a perfect storm for DHL to obtain much lower operating overhead on their 767 service. Who owns the ABX 767's?
