Anyone get the Vet pin with the BZ on it? I think its funny that BM sends out a, "Don't work" message to people who could be on mil leave during peak on Veterans Day, with the threat of Dextor calling units, and now we get a pin and posting on the company page thanking Vets. I'm just continually not impressed with the company's lack of tact and awareness. And the letter that came with the pin was a cut and paste message from Fred. My name was so poorly inserted in the letter it was a joke.

I still have my "mil leave denied" letter sent from an ACP's home account from about 10 years back. It's my little holiday reminder of how special I was and how much my service was appreciated. If anyone has any issues this season be sure to read the military affairs chairman's note on recommended course of action.

Hint: it ain't a mil leave REQUEST....

It's actually quite sad that they've created an environment in which such a letter is viewed so skeptically

And that it's actually signed by Fred (or at least a poor Xerox-looking version of his signature), with a little BZ lapel pin enclosed

Does he know or care about the current climate within the pilot group?

I think he's become very insulated

...and this Veterans Thank You gesture was put out with minimal thought, effort and cost

Even if you're not in the Guard or Reserve please read the Mil Affairs Chairman Update

It speaks to the broader message of corporate culture, and their constant attempt to unilaterally rewrite rules and change processes despite established past practices or other state/federal laws

The application of this strategy & associated tactics goes well beyond those who serve honorably in the Guard & Reserve

It's interesting to note that some are taking formal action against the company

"...Two crew members have specifically stated that they are pursuing these claims through the Department of Labor (which oversees the applicable law, USERRA)...."

I've wondered if the very recent missives "thanking" our Guard, Reserve...and now Veterans... isn't just a bit of reactive back pedaling, and window dressing, in an attempt to claim support

I hope the Mil Affairs Chairman keeps us all posted on the status and outcomes of those claims

I haven't been in the Reserves since 1999 so I was surprised to receive the letter. I do feel that it is a reaction to some poorly timed statements about being in the military and taking mil leave. I hadn't felt like the company was against me or the pilot group until recently. And now I just laugh when scheduling calls me and wants me to change my reserve period so I can help them out. But I did score and was able to move Rdays off Christmas. Go figure?!

I get the impression the letter was directed to ALL FedEx employees who are veterans, not just pilots.

As noted above, it's about the lousiest form letter I've seen in a very long time. It was produced on very lightweight paper using offset printing (high volume, low cost) and the name was inserted over the line after Dear. Even the worst cheesy mail marketers do a better job of "personalizing" their form letters.

Dear __________ <insert name one half line above blank>


The first thing I noticed when I got the letter was how the envelope was torn by the pin sticking out. It makes me wonder if it wasn't an evil plot to destroy the USPS's letter sorting machines by running these sharp objects through the automatic sorters.

Dovetails with the "quality" QVC rejects given for the 20 yr service awards. I was embarrassed to show my wife the list of items available to select from. We had better items at the old company store off of Airways 20 yrs ago.

BTW - to get back on topic. I didn't get the cheesy form letter. :confused:

I didn't even open my envelope to get the pin. I just poked it through the hole.
