FDX/UPS: Single Pilot Ops/Drones= THREAT?
#91
While one pilot sleeps in the back, a remote dispatcher will keep the remaining pilot company. However the pilot in the cockpit will need to use his O2 mask the entire time.

One huge obstacle is simple bandwith to satellite links. It takes constant data link traffic on a still very limited and very expensive network to keep a "drone" in contact with the operator. Wait for the satellite networks to triple before they can even think about linking up jets.

I thought the Navy boys always landed into the wind. I don't ever remember seeing (on TV) a Carrier Boss saying to "turn the ship so that the wind's are 90 degrees across, that'll humble Maverick and Iceman." I could be wrong though. And since they don't understand "flare", they're jets need that extra heavy gear.
Id take the cross wind any day. That whole flare thing is great until your runway starts moving up and down. 2-3 Miles of runway makes those crosswinds mighty evil.

Lol... this thread cracks me up. I just hauled 300k pounds worth of freight on ONE flight on ONE airplane to ICN... One of the items was a B-777 engine. The entire planet would come to a stand still if we had to rely on drones to deliver all of our freight and packages to their respective destinations.
