FedEx- Deviating question
From what I understand, we don't have to deviate both legs of a ticket. I haven't done this so I'm not sure how it works. Say my trip starts with a commercial flight MEM-DFW-PDX. I want to go CLT-DFW-PDX. My DFW-PDX flight is the same as the company. So I only deviate the MEM-DFW leg. Do I need to tell the company I have my own ticket from DFW to PDX or once I deviate the first leg, they understand my ticket is the same as theirs. Is there anything special I need to do this? I assume I'm covered if the flight gets cancelled, delayed, etc since I'm on the same flight the company scheduled. Any gouge or information is appreciated.

I know we have been fighting this for years, and when I was in your same situation I was told "Too bad, you deviated".
I have no idea where we are with this now...all that I know is that common sense does NOT apply.

I think the part deviation you are referring to is international. Domestically I think it is all or nothing. If you "catch up" with the scheduled you will essentially have a better argument with the PAC if something goes wrong. They can't use the "but you didn't have a backup" argument if you cut it as tight as they do.

Global Travel will still cancel your second LEG DFW-PDX because it is Booked as a Single Ticket MEM-PDX. A Problem I have had (we have all had) is when I try to re-book the ticket starting from a Destination other than MEM to the same destination, often times the new Fare is higher than the accepted fare. I suggest before you deviate, you try to find a suitable accepted fare and if you can get the Same second leg then go ahead and deviated. Hopefully this is fixed in the Coming TA. Like LAG said, you are still deviating and should Murphy's Law happen and you don't make it to PDX, if your "Deviation" ticket is on the Company Scheduled LEG (DFW-PDX) they would have a tough time Punishing you while your Partner , who didn't deviate didn't make it to PDX either. The Problem is, the Non Deviator is PAY protected and you won't be.

I have done this many times. The big thing is just like RedEye says when you deviate your company issued DFW-PDX ticket will be cancelled so it is important to make sure you have you full deviation ticket booked already. Then just check the box on the first leg. Any scheduled transportation WILL be there (I have tested this both domestically and internationally).
The one thing I would not be confident of is if problems arise. I would not assume protection just because you did not deviate on that second leg, but hey if the sh$t has hit the fan that bad its worth a try.

I just talked to Contract Enforcement about this. If you deviate the first leg of a DH, the company cancels both legs of the airline ticket, so make sure you already have your deviation ticket purchased. If you are on the scheduled second leg, and didn't deviate that leg, you will have ground transportation and protection if the flight cancels. Works domestic and international.
