I think these guys are just conning their wives. It's not so much about the lack of carbon footprint, etc. It's an excuse to get out of the house and get some exercise.
Though the guy pedaling the refrigerator around is pretty dang impressive.

Hah, I figured out their sneaky scheme! Vendors truck their cookies, coffee, etc. to Freewheel's office on Capitol Hill. Then the bike-wagons deliver the stuff to several nearby locations, all of which are downhill!
