Fedex interviews with the majors

MemphisA320, here's a quote from Fedex's chief pilot from May 2006. Quote, "As for hiring, we still are not interviewing pilots who actively work for major airlines. Also, if your pal failed our process once before, they have to come in personally and speak with the SCP (me for the moment). There are no third chances. We still consider close relatives, even at majors, but they must meet our minimums. Period."
As far as I know, this policy has not changed, but the CP is due to retire very soon and mgmt is interviewing now for the CP position. The new CP may change the current policy. Good luck.

Don't know how they got on, but both have done the Purple Nugget thing. So to say we do not hire them is absolutely false. We just aren't hiring a lot of them!

They were required to resign their seniority at their current airline..............

I did a m+g in the fall of 05 with a furloughed guy at a major, waiting for the interview. Old company recalls him in Mar 06. Now FDX won't look at him because he's a line pilot. They'll still look at furloughes but not active line flyers. This policy could change with the new CP.

JL's policy was that he wouldn't hire anyone that would cause a training cycle at another airline. We have recently hired many off of furlough and that were on military leave long enough to be non-current at their airline.
We did get burned in the mid 90's on furloughed pilots, and that is when we stopped talking to them. More recently, JL's belief is that guys can read the writing on the wall and won't go back under any circumstance.
Incidently, resigning your seniority number doesn't mean much. A letter to a cheif pilot ususally ends up in the round file. Most CP's understand that a guy on furlough still has to put groceries on the table. That is how we got burned in the 90's. FedEx thought those letters actually meant something.
There were two guys in my class that considered going back to AA and one did. When I asked the question about the resignation letter, he explained it as above.
