FedEx 757 Conversion...

1 Attachment(s)
Talk on the crew bus about 757 conversions is that the cockpit will be converted to flat panel displays in an arrangement that looks like the 777…I wouldn’t have given it much thought but I have seen the proposal to put a similar setup in our 300/310’s but they were configured to have a MD11 how-ya-doing.

Seen anything???

757 setup from Boeing...UNMODIFIED FROM THE FACTORY...what you would expect to see if you walked onto any 757 out there...This picture right here below this caption...(REV 1 for FDX Boner Guy)

I don't hear that expression very often, but I flew with a guy that used it frequently. Are you that guy? ;)

No...not me...I can't grow a Mustache if that is they guy you are thinking of...:D

And for those of us not familiar

I didn't know the 757 DIDN'T look like that. Just because nearly every airline besides FedEx flies them... doesn't mean I knew...

Anyway, to see the old or standard version, look at this:

Look at all them mother-f###ing clocks.....

Magenta Line 02-04-2007 02:00 AM

The only thing I have seen is the diagram a jumpseating avionics guy had which showed two flight deck jumpseats and two jumpseats in the back with a galley and lav. I wished I would have asked him about the cockpit setup.

FYI, there were a bunch of Boeing-Seattle guys/gals in MEM a couple of weeks ago and they were showing their avionics options to the AOD powers that be....

DUDE...INSTRUCTIONS FOR READING A POST: 1) Start at the top and work your way down...and if there are pictures look at them. 2) If there are multiple pages go through each one in sequential order.

If you use my 2 easy steps then even you could see that the very FIRST picture, titled: "757 setup from Boeing" (it was in the very first post from me) It is a picture of a BOEING 757 as is from the factory...and the main question that was later answered by D. Larusso were some photos of "converted" 767 with a new cockpit...anyway time to go...I hope you get it.;)

BWP...OUT!

FedEx 757 pic ... looks good

Sweeeeeeeet! Ok, it's probably fake and they wouldn't bother to paint it in FedEx colors BEFORE they put the cargo door in, but it sure looks real. A pretty good fake?

rollndadice 02-04-2007 08:18 AM

ABX along with the electronics company hold the STC for a flat panel mod for 767-757's we are converting our new 767's to the flat panel.

It's a fake. The first 75 is N901FD. BTW - According to MX, it's got Rolls engines.

Runner 02-04-2007 11:18 AM

Allegedly, this is the first one.

I could careless about the avionics and cockpit set up, I just care about the jumpseats - more is better, most is best!:p

The serial number matches up with the MX document I saw. Being reregistered as N901FD.

Rumor around the Smith Estate is that he's trying to cut a deal with Boeing and the FAA to make the 777 and 757 a common type rating:( ,....It's a pretty solid rumor. I just started it:)

I'm still waiting for that twin engine single prop baby goose FedEx was so proud of about 10 yrs ago!

Flew the acceptance flight 3 days ago on #2 in Tel Aviv (EL AL). Look for it in MEM around the 19th or so.

5 total JS on the 757 P-F Conversion

Two in the cockpit (one is an Ironing board)
Three against the RCB in the courier compartment.

Are those winglets on the FedEx 75 I see in your Avatar?
Are they all going to have them?

Coffee Bitch 02-08-2007 02:54 PM

...for now the return on investment does not appear to support FedEx's goal. Using 727 data for utilization and average leg length, MX savings, and depreciation....it's about 8 yrs ROI. Not even close. If we could make the distance closer to 1200 miles, then 2-3 years would be achievable and put around $20M in the bank at the 15 yr point. Yes, they pay for themselves. Heck, even the Dallas Mavericks have blended winglets!!!

FDX28 02-08-2007 02:58 PM

I'm on the BFM flight this month and 610AU is at the MAE hanger with the US Air logos painted over, the engines covered, and looks like it's getting ready for the door conversion.

Lippy 02-08-2007 03:58 PM

Hey Coffee, How does it fly?

Is that a UFO in the sky?

Seriously, how's the cockpit setup? and will they all be setup the same once we get them?

Coffee Bitch 02-08-2007 04:24 PM

Although I flew the 757/767 off and on for about 9 years in my "Practice" airline, the EL AL flight was my first flight in a RR configuration. TOGW was light, 233 empty cabin seats and only 40K of gas, we blasted off rather nicely. +23 deg nose up passing 2,000 ft, max con ran well past the clacker on the Vmax run at FL340/0.861 IMN. Popped out the rat, killed the hydraulics and all worked as advertised. Final landing was a max crosswind limit autoland in very gust winds and exhibited no problems. Other than the power and the vast amount of cockpit differences it appeared to act like every other 75. I think everyone will be happy to fly the plane especially if FedEx purchases an updated (777) cockpit.

Coffee Bitch 02-08-2007 04:35 PM

Incoming !!!

Nope, thats an incoming Hamas Square Mortar round !!!

All our 757's will be of the standard half-glass configuration when we get them. Plenty of differnces between each plane since FedEx has acquired no large group of aircraft and Boeing offers so many customer selectable options. The fix would be an updated glass cockpit that some have mentioned on this website. We should know the company's decision soon. I believe 4 request for proposals went out and not sure how many responded. I have seen 3 of the 4 company's products and all are awesome AMLCD's which replace the hotter and more power consuming baseline CRT's. Each company can tailor the symbology to match FedEx commonality goals so the MD-11/777/757 should all pretty much be the same if FedEx decides to standardize our 757's. Hope that shed a little light?

Sounds great...hope the plan stands the test of time/money.

ABK MAN 02-20-2007 02:16 AM

Hey, looked for the 757 last night, worked the East ramp, checked Hangers 11/12, I saw no 757, did see a Sudan Air Big Bus though, looked like patch work as they had installed the main cargo door. It will be good to see a 757 in purple . . .

TonyC 02-20-2007 06:12 AM

Speaking of Sudan Air, Hangars 11 & 12, etc., etc. . . .

What was with that NOTAM the other day about "Aircraft demolition" in spots H011 and H012? Were they blowing up the MD-10, or what? That thing looks like something we'd see in the desert. Rudders gone, engines gone, air conditioning packs gone . . . Are they going to set it on fire and let the fire department try again?

.

BoxFlyer 02-20-2007 10:25 AM

Yep, they finally pulled the white tent off the jet and called in CTU and Jack Bauer to blow the thing up.

"Yep, they finally pulled the white tent off the jet and called in CTU and Jack Bauer to blow the thing up."

Wow,

Talk about things we shouldn't write/say in a public forum...

I hope the bad guys don't read this and somehow find Jack or it WILL be on your head...

Now back to the regular scheduled programming.

CTU out..

BoilerUP 02-20-2007 11:26 AM

Hope there's not a CTU perimeter there...or the MD10 might just sneak away...

ABK MAN 02-20-2007 02:20 PM

Talked to a avionics buddy of mine, he said that they had temp. bid for fdx mechanics to dis-assemble the A/C right where it sat. It is my understanding that they will remove parts that are good and can be re-used, i.e. cockpit windows, main cargo door, floor locks, etc. . . and scrap the rest.

bravo24 02-20-2007 04:05 PM

I was out looking at the airplane yesterday. It looked like a Cadillac that had been left unattended too long in the wrong part of Memphis.

'Well officer, I was waiting in the take-out line at Corky's in my sweet Caddy and the next thing I know I'm up on blocks and somebody stole my 22-inch spinners!"

How long is too long to leave a vehicle unattended in Melvis?:D
