This is the best post I've seen on this subject.

We keep our planes in the air probably 6-10 hours a day, every day. (777 is more like 20).

You can't buy a fleet of 767F's to use during Christmas.

*** are you talking about?
He means that the circumstances that cause service failures won't care if you're a hip new company. Ice is ice. T-storms are T-storms. It'd be very very hard to exceed our reliability... with HUD, Cat III, all those exemptions in the FOM we got......

If they are serious about it Amazon will get there( CAT III, HUD etc. etc.) too, they feel they were let down by their lift the last few years, it will be interesting watching this evolve.

They are disappointed in there lack of forecasting costumer last minute demand and were unwilling to pay a contract that would ensure the costumer demand could be met. This years failure is not with the lift operation as much as using UPS/FedEx as a scapegoat.

Amazon will not be affected by bad weather. They are better than that. The snow will stop, the tornados will veer away, the skies will clear for Amazon.

And they still won't be able to make a profit, most years. How do these guys stay in business, anyways?

How about you quit being a douchebag? Then again, being an a&$ is probably a huge part of your dna.
You're entitled to your opinion. Better yet, skip this thread and pick another one...

SO much of the hype is the hipsters in the primarily Internet "press" who ADORE the low profits and low "salary" of The Bezos. Never mind the trillions in stock he has...symbolism over substance. Many of these mastermind writers don't know what the pointy end of a jet is called, but predict success.

This is just my .02 but the big question is what kind of company is amazon currently and what kind of company would they like to be? Getting into the transportation and logistics business because it is a cost center for your business may make sense, but is that really the business you want to be in? Do your core competencies translate well to that business?

I'm not quite sure I believe the justifications put out so far by Amazon, but perhaps they are playing a longer game (They want to be a logistics company???!!)

At 300, give or take, AMZN P/E is 20X the S&P 500 average. What would it take to tip the scale too far? Smith got it right at the earnings call.

Pending acquisition of Colis Prive demonstrates readiness to "give it a shot?" Negative, Jay Greene. Going to need a lot more chips to play this table.
