If they called I sure wish they would leave a damn message! I just landed and now have a 3 hour sit.
CONGRATS Dawg. That totally rocks. I wish you the best. TP |
I am just glad they finally called someone who took the assessment before me.;)
Congrats on the call Dawg. |
[quote=C17turtle;129677]I got speak with HR today to clarify a few '07 application questions. Basically, if you have an "on file" application in the system you are pretty much done until you are invited to proceed in the the hiring process. That means no updates or resume submissions until you are invited to do so. I take that to mean if your file has gone active, good news is on your way or has already arrived...
I like your take, since mine went active recently, just wondering what you're basing it on. Thanks for any insight. |

I'm a little confused about the '07 App. I applied on 12/28/06 and can pull up my stuff at any time through my SSN and my job inquiries. It also says ACTIVE under the status bar.
Since I applied at the end of '06 and all my info seemed to transfer over to '07, is there anything else that needs to be done. |

If you are updating an application, it is NOT a 2007 app. and you are wasting your time. I personally walked into HR about 2 wks ago and was told that current 2007 apps CANNOT be updated. You are updating your 2006 app and I was told those will do you no good. You must reapply in 2007 to have a shot at it. Who knows tho, maybe the person in HR I talked to doesn't fully understand this new system. Wouldn't surprise me.

I never submitted a 2006 app. I put my app in Jan 11, it went to 'on file' and then just went 'active' a few days ago. I am now able to access my app and have put a resume in. Are you saying this is a 2006 app?? I'm confused.

Also, for those who are hoping for a second interview, there appears to be no rule on when that could be, if ever. They said you can reapply at the beginning of the next calendar year, but if, for example, you interviewed in Nov/Dec of one year, you wouldn't be getting a call the next January! I asked if they used 6 months as a rule of thumb, but didn't get a straight answer. I think exp96 on this forum interviewed in Oct and is already invited back for the assessment--so I'm guessing it's a possibility! So... Of those who were "on file" Has anyone NOT seen their application go from "on file" to "active"... in other words, are there any "on file" people out there, who have never been "active?" |
What Keyword for Search
Question for you guys who've been able to fill out an '07 app: What keyword did you search for on the ups jobs website. I keep trying "second officer" since that's what the job was advertised as last year, but I've also been trying "first officer" and "pilot" just in case.
So far, nothing available and I've been trying 3-5 times a week for the last couple of months. I even have some internal rec's but it doesn't make a bit of difference if you don't even have an app in. |
My app did ask me for intl exp, etc. It also shows as a second officer app.

I am one of them. I think there are plenty of us out there...Even if there are only a few (100-200 or so) that can get their app in at any one time, you can't expect everyone to be invited to the hiring process--and that's apparently what going "active" means... |

Then you are good to go. If the only app you've ever submitted was done in 2006 then it's time to reapply when the window opens. Sounds like you did the 2007 version. Sorry to confuse you.

No Gotchas
AK15
I got the assessment email a couple of weeks ago. There are no gotchas that I saw. It was weird, though. Some statements (they were all statements that you respond with t/f radio buttons) were pretty straightforward, such as: I have never deliberately told a lie. There were several statements that were similar. I think the idea is to check to see if the applicant is consistent. I wouldn't sweat it. I recommend giving honest answers and if they don't like who you are, maybe you'd be better off with someone else. BTW, I tried to pm you, but have to do a bunch of posts before that's permitted. Perhaps you could PM me if you want some more info. I don't know if I'll be able to respond... Cheers B |

Hauptman, that is about when I got mine. I completed it within a few days and got a call on 2/2. The problem I had was that the link would not work. It wasn't till I forwarded it to another email address that the link worked properly. I feel for you hanging for so long. I think its needless to ask, but have you checked your spam filters?

I got hosed by the new app system!
Don't feel bad. I actually managed to get my 2007 application started. Unfortunately, I had everything except my specific type rating flight time breakdowns with me at the exact time when I happened to log into the jobs site and saw the Flight Officer position posted. There I sat without my logbook in hand and thought... "If I don't at least get it started so I can log back in and complete it later, I'll never see it posted again."
So, I filled out everything I could with the exception of adding all but one of my type ratings and the specific PIC/SIC experience I had in those types. The application has a bunch of general fields you complete, but the type ratings section is an individual type by type upload. You can upload as many as you can or none... SO... when I finished everything else, it ASSUMED I was done and accepted it as being complete. So without the ability to update, I am being falsely evaluated by their system without any hope of correcting the application. I emailed them to inquire about making the correction to the app, but got an expected "too bad" answer. You'd think there would be a nice disclosure stating that you'll only have ONE SHOT at filling out this application and that it is not like any previous app. But I guess that critical piece of information that may have a significant impact on a persons career is something you just can't expect. I certainly hope the Director of Safety at UPS isn't the same person that holds the Director of on-line Applications position. |

Hi Guys:
My 2007 app shows on file (hoping it to go active sometime). I would like to know from the guys that it went active, if all of you guys have a bachelors degree? I have lots of PIC international time but i don't have a degree. Some heavy jet time too. Thanks for any posts answering my question. Good luck to u all. |
My app is "active" and I've done the assessments. Yes, I have a degree and think it helps.

I hate to tell you this, but I think if you don't have a 4 year degree, you are SOL. I would keep trying for it though cuz you never know. Good luck! Anyone get hired without a degree lately? |

My app shows active and has ever since I finished it. I have also taken the assessment but no call yet. Took it last Thursday.

which program do ya'll use to upload your resume? i used the the note pad just to get it in......hope that choice isn't hurting me......

PDF works
You may have good results using PDF to upload your resume. Portable Document Format, aka PDF, is made for these types of situations. You have no idea what word processor or viewer they might use. However, PDF is supposed to be a "standard" that they will be able to open. The application program does accept files in PDF. Just try to open your resume PDF file before posting to make sure a PDF viewer has no trouble reading it.
Good luck! |

Good Luck I used a .doc file for my resume on the application, then when I was emailed a request for my resume to me emailed back, I used a .rtf as well as a .doc version in case the format got zany in the translation. When I got the phone call there was no comment about it, but there were the std questions about the qualifications. I may ask at the interview if they had any problems with the one I sent. YMMV. |
