Oh, come on. How many times do they have to tell us? Fatigue is not an issue with our mishaps!!! Just ask S/O Cheever. He'll set you straight.

It reminds me of my pal Hannity. I think he believes the louder and more times he says something...The less false it becomes.

I thought Shemya but I don't remember the dropoff being that big.

On closer examination it looks like one of the Capes or Points.

There is, just not where I remembered it. Been awhile.

And so much for my other two guesses as well:

I give up. Where is it?

Someone mentioned advance volunteer. A friend mentioned an interesting contractual factoid, which I'm not sure is Urban Legend or not. He's pretty senior in his seat and vacation buyback was offered for that seat but it didn't get to him (he was 3rd most senior with vacation that month). Turns out that the company has to offer vacation buyback to activate ava, so they offer it, give it to the top guy then are contractually able to offer ava. Who knew?

The list could be incorporated in the ALPA emails that are sent out on a regular basis, as well as being published and hung on the union bulletin boards in Memphis, Newark, Anchorage, Los Angeles, and Indy. Sort of like the union published non-members list, because that's what these guys are doing, becoming (in effect) non-members.
I actually agree with you-Mass hysteria, cats and dogs living together!!! I think the problem is that there is a limit to what they can publish without legal ramifications because after all it is within the limits of the contract. I think publishing what pairings are flown, and leaving the rest to us to deal with is as far as they can go. Very similar to all the guys at the pax airlines who have been whoring themselves out picking up bunches of trips keeping people on the street longer, only so much the union can legally do about it as they represent all of us. Nothing stopping individual pilots on their own free will doing such postings, just can't be officially sanctioned. Inititative, something rarely seen these days. It's all in the tone you want to set, some companies union leaders won't be seen in the same county as a scab, some welcome them into meetings and shake hands with them. Seen both, find the later disgusting.

Macman,

That's true. To offer AVA they have to do Vaca buy back. When they buy back only on person's vaca, they then activate AVA. They know the trips will be picked up and can there for UNDERMAN RESERVE coverage.

Which part do you question?

Company has to offer vacation buyback?

Company only offers it to the "top" guy?

According to the Contract, The Company has to request voluntary vacation cancellations in the pilot's crew position. That's all. A strict reading of the verbiage reveals that The Company need not actually cancel any vacations to use AVA, they only need request them.

Certainly, when they do request voluntary vacation requests, they are not obligated to honor all requests. They should honor them in seniority order until they have cancelled enough vacations to make the schedule work. If that means they only cancel one, that's perfectly legitimate. Theoretically it would appear that cancelling none is also legitimate. (I don't think that would be as effective, but that's a different story.)
Section 25. Scheduling
N. Volunteer (VLT)
4. Advance Volunteer Assignment

The Company may advance assign a VLT trip prior to the open time assignment window subject to the following:
b. A trip is eligible for AVA assignment only if the trip has a showtime:
ii. during a bid period in which the Company has requested voluntary vacation cancellations in the pilot's crew position; or

hey guys...if they fly those disputed pairings at ava does that matter?...an fo told me a lot of them were picking them up as ava because as long as noone flies them at 100% pay besides reserve it still costs the company money and they are not being flown at 100%...misconception?

Can't pick up spmething up AVA until open time os out for 24 hours. Then it has to be within a week. So those trips got sucked up at straight pay.
