Is it true that Eastern furloughed a few weeks ago? If so, have they recalled any of those furloughed??? Seems they posted DEC on LinkdIn this week. What the hell gives???

Are they unionized? As in, do they have to follow any sort of CBA/seniority/recall procedures?

"Quietly resigned" Is that how it's called now a days?

If Eastern can get a competent management team together and invest in their fleet, it will be successful and big player in the future supplemental world. But it will take big financing and commitment. I wish them luck.

So, you're saying there's a chance?

Triggs 08-07-2023 03:40 AM

Rumor has it, the former CEO of Swift is now in charge of Eastern. If that's the case, hold on to your wallets

I believe the new leadership was an Ops guy at Swift, not the CEO. I think the Swift CEO was sent out to pasture at some point.

Randow was the VP Ops at Swift. My understanding is he is the President over there now. Not a pilot friendly person. Reliable source indicates Conry is now above him in the pecking order there.

That makes way more sense, thank you for the clarification!

Trying to get Swift Captains to jump....JC is exacting a lil revenge on his old alma mater that showed him the door!

Any info on this company?

1. Do I get to pick the plane I want?

2. Any news on union formation?

3. How's the quality of the training department?

4. How the heck do you apply? There's no link anywhere on thier website.

Friend whose brother is there on the 76 says their nose is barely above water. Who knows how they'll end up a year from now.

At the bottom of their home page is a link, titled "Join Our Team." it takes you to the job listings on a workforcenow page. There are separate listings for applying for the 737, 767, or 777.

Well now….that’s an interesting read.
So 73 DEC apparently requires:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of 7000 hours total flying time – only time in the operating seat of a turboprop and/or turbojet aircraft can be counted.

• Minimum of 2000 hours PIC time on multi-crew, multi-engine, commercial aircraft.

• Previous experience must include wide-body aircraft PIC time, preferably on the B767 or B777.
Is this to keep Swift/IAero pilots from applying?
WTF would you apply for a 73 position if you actually hold those requirements 😂

JohnBurke 01-31-2024 03:40 PM

Beats me. Someone applying there may be unhirable elsewhere, or have somethign going on that makes looking elsewhere either unlikely or undesirable. Could be someone is after a specific kind of flying; maybe they'd prefer the 737 flying vs. 777 long haul. Maybe the company is simply screening, or actively discouraging, or whatever the policy falvor of the day might be. Perhaps someone simply copied and pasted from another vacancy and didn't think too much of it, such as a non-pilot who didn't understand the implications. I never guess or assume, so whatever the rationale, what's posted, is posted.

I don't have any affiliation with Eastern, but another poster couldn't navigate to the bottom of the page and find the job link, so I provided it for him.

Well I guess since for the FO position they require

  • Impeccable safety and training record

there’s no need to require it for the DEC.

LOL

I think there are a lot of reasons that applicants go for the ACMI carriers. I've seen considerable shiny jet fever from regional guys, and I've seen quite a few pilots who came from a string of jobs where they were never a PIC, looking for big airplane time...and I've seen a few who did nothing but hop around collecting type ratings. I've seen a few who clearly falsified their resume and lacked the little experience they claimed, and couldn't fly their way out of a wet paper bag (or fly straight and level, for that matter). There are those who never failed a checkride, but who don't have what I'd call a shiny history. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing stands out.

There are also those who absolutely will not commute on their own, who prefer home basing, and see it as a massive component of their quality of life. I can't disagree.

If someone is stuck in a F/O position somewhere and feels stagnated, the chance to go get direct-entry as a captain in a 777 or 767, or even 737, may be an attractive choice. After all, how many of us got into aviation to be a copilot?

There are quite a few who prefer the ACMI lifestyle, too, who like the variety, the variable locations, trips, etc. Some would rather have a life in which two days are never the same.
