Any word on upcoming interviews, hiring needs, or new hire class dates?

Or new airframes for that matter?

Thanks Skipper!

jonnyjetprop 03-29-2011 07:40 AM

The number being qouted is 59 openings with some B747 FO slots. No idea on when classes will start. Training is backed up with current World pilots. We just had a bid for an additional B747, so that's 27 pilots that have to go through B747 school.

Keep an eye on the careers page on the company website and start working internal recommendations, if you have one.

I don't know exactly what they're looking for now for competitive times. However, I was hired in 07 with a fractional, 135 freight and instructor background with 7000TT and an internal rec. I know a couple of guys with a fractional background hired in the last few years. I also know one guy with a corporate background and no 121...hired over 10 years ago.

Just flew with him the other month. He is doing great.
Jonny, you need to get a life and some more days off. Ost is going to hurt you one of these days.
Interviews..last I was told in the middle of this month. Some guys got the call already. Looks like some will go straight to the 74

clipperskipper 04-10-2011 01:09 PM

Bummer...I was hoping to get the call at some point. I was called back in 08 but was stuck in the desert with a broke jet and couldn't get back in time. I'll keep applying and keep my fingers crossed.

okbk 04-13-2011 04:31 AM

gasnhaul - we are putting a few new hires into class each month for the indefinite future, so keep applying as they will continue hiring, also I believe the ATA preferential interview requirement ends this month. good luck.

gasnhaul 04-13-2011 06:29 AM

okbk,

Thanks for the info. I'm sure they're tired of seeing my app come in every week. I'm gonna keep trying!:D

Has anyone interviewed there recently? I've been reading the gouges and they all say different things, however they mention NDB stuff, is that still part of the sim ride? Not that big of a deal, just haven't done that in many years. Any info would be great. Thanks.

I would presume it still is. When I interviewed 3 years ago, they commented that they had not changed the sim profile in many years, and yes it did include the NDB.

I interviewed in 07 and in the sim ride, I had to join an NDB bearing, cross, then fly another bearing outbound. A few of these on my MS flightsim 98 helped me work the rust out of the NDB stuff before the interview. Like you said, it really is not a big deal.

SabreDriver 04-29-2011 05:56 PM

I had to do a full NDB approach during my recurrent PC this year. In their defense, at World, we still go some places that one might actually need to do one for real, and you better bring your A game. The interview sim is very straightforward, basic stuff. You know, like "blue side up." Follow directions, and comply with your clearance, and be able to give an honest objective debrief of your own performance.

world app question

Question:
I see on the APC front page that World is hiring. However, when I click the link, I get a message about third-party cookies, and nothing else. Does the site work only they open a pilot hire window? Or do I have some other computer browser setting problem? What is up?
Thanks.
zach

HercDriver130 05-08-2011 04:39 AM

the window and link is only active when they want it to be active.

Any tips, other than "check the link daily"?
zach

Radials Rule 05-08-2011 09:12 AM

In the past, APC's link to World hiring only worked when World had the FO position posted on World's site (not showing an opening at this time). Even though we're hiring, in a sense, APC's profile on World that we're hiring is not current. They're probably satisfied with how many they've interviewed recently and are "hiring" from that interview group.

I seem to remember that the url for the APC link doesn't always stay exactly the same. Also, our management is notorious for having the opening posted for just a few days. I would just periodically (every day if you wish ;)) check the company site for openings as they could decide to interview more candidates at the drop of a hat. Everything else seems to be decided at the last minute here, so this is just par for the course.

Good luck.

Is the pilot contract in negotiation? Or is it set for a while?

Negotiations started in 2009. Hopefully they will have a TA the end of this year.... Hopefully...

While our HR department likes the web links and the whole internet thing, I'd go old school and mail a resume in.

I interviewed last week and there is no longer any NDB stuff. L1011 sim, takeoff, climbs, turns, descents, intersepts(talk about what heading to intercept), holds(talk about entry), and then vectors to intercept ILS, ILS down to mins with a landing. During my group, the sim broke and the rest of the guys swithed to the MD-11 sim. Very laid back interview. I was called the next day with an offer and start class soon.

"I interviewed last week and there is no longer any NDB stuff."

But be prepared for NDB approaches during training. They will likely use Ontario and Seattle maybe Frankfurt or Amsterdam in the sim. You will see them on the type ride as well......

I don't think KONT or KSEA have published NDB approaches any longer.

Have you guys put GNS in your birds yet?
