Miami Air
Any new updates on Miami Air, hiring, expansion or any other relevent info. Thanks..
|
Ya, please, I've been waiting for any info/updates!
|
They have had 2 ground schools lately with new hires, traditionally small classes with about 4-6 per class. Work seems steady with no prediction on growing or shrinking. We recently lost a -700 that was scheduled to leave and go back to its original owner out in Oakland. That hasn't affected our staffing too much so there might be additional hiring here sometime in the future. You just never know in the charter business how busy or slow things will get, but as of now things seem steady as ever so hopefully that means good things here.
|
do they still require the training bond? If you are already typed? Are they in CASS

that would be very competitive, living in south Florida is a huge plus as well and gives you a fantastic QOL here.

What about 5000tt 3500jet with no PIC living in South Florida... any chance or a waste of an email?
The staffing and fleet numbers are very stagnant resulting in long times in the right seat. While the pay sucks for the first few years, you may be better off at a regional. Compare pay and upgrade schedules at regionals vs Miami Air. And see how both fit in with your career and quality of life goals. |

take everything in this industry with a grain of salt, things change by the minute in aviation. It is a great adventure if you decide to pursue it. |

there are plenty of FO's that got hired without any turbine PIC time... and you would be competitive for a job at Miami Air, but it is possible to spend about 5 years in the right seat here. I had 121 PIC time when I came here and i recommend it to everyone who applies as well. There are alot of senior guys who have 65 creeping up on them (about 15) which when you only have about 90 pilots is a decent amount of movement, but there is also no growth at the moment.

It would be nice to get out of Alaska and be based down south. I have almost 3 years at a 121 outfit and a few hundred multi turbine PIC hrs. Do you think another ground school will be put together in the next month or so?

Probably not during the summer months, things tend to slow down during those months. I am sure there will be a ground school in the fall. Always keep trying to submit a resume, you just never know when there might be a ground school here.

Alaska= Cold, dark in winter, toothless women who strut around like Playboy models:eek:, crazy drunk people running around with firearms, and crappy flying conditions (sometimes). I think I'd seriously consider relocating to Miami if given the opportunity. |

|
737's..........

Heard through the grape vine that KK aka Kermit the Frog is on longer the DO, and lucky to have job still. I guess the one who used to throw a bunch of guys under the bus just got thrown under a buss too.
Oh well what goes around comes around. |
So it's a 3yr training contract for Miami Air. What if you leave before then - what's the "buy out"?

I just got called to set up an interview, so they are moving forward on hiring.
One question, how commutable is the schedule? I would plan to reside in Miami, but we just bought a house and the wife has a job in CHS. I wouldn't be running to CHS every break, but I'd like to be able to go back regularly. |

Any current pilot at Miami Air mind PMing me? Have a few questions.
Thanks in advance :) |

Been told commuting is very rough. Also, do not even hint in the interview that you are considering it.

People can Re-locate or ACCQUIRE A Crash Pad Apartment to be available on all duty days..... I have the experience...exceed the mins....have 2 PIC Type Ratings ( one a widebody).....have applied twice with them...including this current window.....and like everyone else.....I really NEED The Job and would be willing to relocate to FLL..... I even sent a SEPERATE E-MAIL to D Durocher indicating that I would gladly re-locate for the opportunity......No Response whatsoever.. I still get ignored....Don't know what else to do....Interviews are in Dec 2012 and Jan. 2013.. |

Well if this is true about having a FL address, I'm out of the running too. More than willing to re-locate. Will see what shakes out. Also, I exceed the mins, 73 typed and current.

I applied 4 times with zero response. I was flying and living in Memphis at the time. My cousin lives in Miami so I asked her if I could use her address on my résumé. With her permission I emailed the Chief Pilot, John Passwater, at 2am and he called me about an interview at 9am the same day. They REALLY do prefer local pilots. One guy in my new hire class nearly a year ago lived in Arizona and was hired. 2 were Florida residents. In my class of 4 pilots, 2 had ATP's with 737 type ratings, jet time, but no experience in type, one only had a Commercial license with an SIC type in the 737 and also in the Embraer 170 along with FO experience in the 737. And then there was me who was the odd man out. I had +1000 PIC turboprop in the ATR 72 with zero jet time or types, but I had an internal recommendation from a company instructor.
From what I know there is currently a class of 4 going on with plans for February and March classes of 4 each. I believe interviews for Feb. have been completed and I am unsure of the interviews for the March class. Good luck! |
Jan class is in progress. There was a second round of interviews in early Jan. They used both interview groups to fill the Feb & Mar classes.
|
I missed the boat on this one... urrgghh.
