Are new hires paid min guarantee at the start of training and does the company pay for hotel during training?
Is the scheduling conducive for commuters, do many pilots commute?
How much can a new hire expect to fly on reserve? I read in a previous post that reserve is about 9 months.
Are there many sequences with layovers or do a lot of flights end up back in MSP each day?
Thanks

At start of training you get all travel benefits and medical. I believe its min guarantee at the start. I don't believe the company pays the hotel. The schedules may be commutable on the front end or back end but not both. Its a ideal company if you live in msp. reserve is 10 months with 2.5 year upgrade. The threads mention you will fly on reserve. Its not true. Even though the pay is low pilots are still sticking around. All flights end up in msp. Sunny won't leave minnesota even though apollo took over now.

Yes, you get paid full guarantee during training and as of a couple months ago you get health insurance and travel benefits from day one. No, company does not provide hotels during training.

Most pilots live local or within a few hours drive. There are some commuters as well. Most of the scheduled flying tends to be turns while the charter flying is multi-day trips. Jude wants to grow outside of MSP and wants to take advantage of seasonal peaks in different markets ( i.e. LAX- HNL for a few months). He said there won't be any new bases for at least 18 months so any growth will mean more multi-day trips which should be more conducive to commuting.

A crap shoot on how much you will fly. Depends on the season. A new hire today should hold a line in 4-5 months, if not less, the way things are moving. They have said they want to use reserves more "efficiently" and reduce the number of reserves so they get utilized more. If they do then holding a flying line should come quickly and you should fly more on reserve. They plan on 104 new hires and 50 upgrades this year. There's around 300 currently on property so things should move quickly for someone hired today.

If the plan of growth takes hold, reserve will not be long as they will be hiring 100-150 pilots a year for the foreseeable future.
As far as lodging during training.. it’s on your own. Either a cheap hotel, crash pad, or a family or friends couch if you have one in MSP. Once again, this place is trying to become more commuter friendly to attract pilots but it’s a slow process. The company is still set on trying to grow this place with the current CBA. So don’t expect to come here and overnight this place will be like Southwest or Delta. Keep your expectations at a minimum. I wouldn’t be surprised with Spirits new AIP/TA, we would loose some pilots there.

Once off of IOE and on reserve; how often does anyone break guarantee? When you finally get a line awarded is it ever over 75 hours? Does anyone get the 150% for working over the 75 hours? I'm guessing that it's only if awarded over 75 hours?

Reserve at SY is a special kind of suck. 10 days off, scheduling will try to break the contract consistently, you can't swap your off days, you can't pick up flying on your off days, you can be used on your off days, you will most likely fly on your last day, and you will never break guarantee. Ask any SY pilot hired in the last 5 years, our scheduler's are probably the worst in the industry including regionals.
Lines very month to month based on seasonal flying. 70-90 hours. Many people pickup and get the 150% pay.
