Default Omni upgrading out of seniority

Omni published displacement awards in March resulting in the downgrading of many Captains, and the displacement of First Officer's from the 777 to the 767.

Now I hear that the teamster's exco has made an agreement with management to allow several of these Captain's and FO's (exco included) to retain their seat, without regard to seniority or standing bids, contrary to the contract. In otherwords, these crewmember's where awarded a seat without a bid and out of seniority.

not upgrading them - staying in the seat they were hired into pre-contract I believe 6 Captains on the 767 stay as CAs - agreement with teamsters signed beforehand before announcement

I do believe that some upgrades will still happen, just not as many due to seat retention due to a one time special deal between the company and the union. Those that do upgrade will be by "qualified" seniority only.

The theory behind the deal was that people were being downgraded while people were being upgraded at the same time. Lots of extra training taking place (spending money) for a few people to change seats. Bottom line is, just like every other deal between an airline and the pilots that work for them, some people benefited and others got shafted.

The good news is that no one is being furloughed even though it was threaten at the beginning of the year. I wouldn't be surprised if they are hiring by the year's end.

If it's saving jobs in the process, I support it fully. These captains are 3-4 year guys retaining their seats. The damage was done by the junior street captains, but I feel that's been adequately addressed.

+1. Fundamentally this is a jobs saving agreement. It's understandable people are frustrated. It's certainly a dynamic situation when you're managing a "seniority based system" with grandfathered street captains.

This is 100% incorrect.

All they did was cancel a certain number of displacements to cover attrition. It would have been handled the same way at any airline I've worked for. They no longer had the need to displace the crew members.

I have absolutely no problem with it.

The decisions we made for this agreement were based on saving pilots from hitting the streets. This was a no win situation for the union and we did what we thought would be the best for the ENTIRE pilot group. The Exco had a tough choice to make and we did what we thought would benefit as many people as we could with the hand we were dealt with the companies management style.

Have you taken this issue up with your MEC or did you jump directly to the Airing Dirty Laundry in Public method of resolution?

Either way, putting this up on a public message board was kinda whiney.

At first nothing happened. Then, after a second or so, nothing continued to happen.

By the way, two senior 767 FOs were just awarded 777 CA, in proper seniority order. Nothing to see here.
