Anyone know how long it usually takes to hear back after submitting an application? I published my app 2 weeks ago on AirlineApps. Republic got back to me literally the next day and I wouldn't have thought that I'd be somehow less qualified to be at CommutAir than Republic...

You sounds like a douche so you shouldn’t go to either one.

No idea, I applied six weeks ago and haven't heard anything from them.

I had the opposite experience. RPA took a while to get back to me. Commutair was within 24 hours. This was before the pay raises - July timeframe.

I think jumping to qualification conclusions is a tad premature.

Correct. All of these airlines seem to pull resumes from Airline Apps in batches. If you are well qualified and happen to submit right before a pull you should get a call in days. Otherwise a few weeks isn't uncommon.

I applied, got a call about two weeks later, and officially interviewed two weeks after that. So for me it was almost a month from applying to being offered the position.

C5 Hiring

Is C5 hiring at R-ATP mins still or are they wanting DEC’s still? If they are hiring FO’s, does anyone know if class dates are backed up at all and if they’re recommend C5. TIA

When C5 is hiring FOs, they definitely take R-ATP. What they've told us is that classes for FOs are resuming mid-September after being suspended since mid-March. Not sure how full the classes are but it couldn't hurt to apply.

As far as recommending C5, I'm pretty happy here. Crews are great, Aviate is the fastest "flow" out of the 3 even though it's not contractual like CAP/Propel and American's flow, and we really do have the best commuter deal in the regionals with 6 free hotel rooms per month on reserve. The Embraer 145 is long in the tooth and United is scoped out on the 175 so unless Mesa, Republic, or SkyWest part ways with UA, we are gonna have some soul searching years on the horizon. We have the same problems any regional has with being overstaffed on FOs and in IAD over 50% of the FOs are on reserve this month. We do have FOs leaving but I'll bet that a lot more upgrade here and stay in the captain seat because of Aviate compared to a SkyWest or Republic. I wouldn't advocate for hanging out here if you got a call from Delta or Southwest, but for a lot of us who would have to commute to an LCC too, they are making it worth our while to stay until that first legacy call. For me personally, my #1 goal is DL and UA is my #2. I should supposedly flow in 2ish years (fully expecting it to take 3+) and I'll hope to get a call from Delta in that time but if it doesn't pan out, I'll just flow to UA. If I had to do it all over again, I'd come here again.

Ok thank you! I appreciate the insight. I kind of wanted UA in the long term because I live close to one of their bases but I’d be happy to go to another legacy if they have me a call after C5. Is the amount of flying FO’s do solely dependent on staffing here?

You're welcome. Things ebb and flow with whatever United wants from us. As a general rule, we have almost as many lines as we have captains, obviously with a few on reserve. There are as many FO lines as Captain lines so if you're a line-holding FO then life is good. If you are on reserve, expect the company to fly you very close to 100 hours in the first 3-4 months after your checkride and then basically forget about you until you have enough seniority to hold a line. You would theoretically be coming in at a less brutal time because they haven't hired FOs for 5 months and the ranks should thin out a little bit. That being said, expect 0 hours from DOH to 3 months in due to training and sims, then 100 hours in the next 3 months, then 10-50 hours total for the next 2 months of reserve, and then 65-90 hours/month beyond that once you hold a line (~8 months seniority). Hopefully by the time you come on the reserve time should fall down but that's how it's looking over here.
