Quote: Hmmm, this is actually a big deal. What other mil policies are not great? And can we get this policy changed?!

It's in the process of being fought but it's not looking good. It's BS and is my biggest complaint about this airline. The other issue is not crediting mil leave properly in PBS before bidding. This should be fixed with the new contract.

Searched on the site and couldn't find an answer to this specifically. Does CommutAir require TSO head set? Considering the uflymike and QC15 option.

Most 121 carriers require TSO, if youre not going to use the company privided headsets. The Uflymike is a great setup, just make sure you get the TSOed version...shouldn't cost you tons more than the basic setup.

Nope. Any headset will do.

Newhire awaiting United interview
First time on this thread and just awaiting United interview. I'd like to get the inside scoop on what the real QOL issues are from someone at CA right now.

Sick calls? Occurance based or unlimited with notes.
Medical insurance costs and coverage?
Scheduling problems?

Brief summary of what life on the line is like at CA?

If anyone can give a quick idea of what flying the line is like at CA would be great. Gripes. Positive notes. Relationship of flightcrew and mgmt.

Also, does anyone know how many C5 pilots United is supposed to take each month or year?

If I recall 10% of the pilots at CommutAir or 5% of total hiring at United for the year, whichever is higher. Can't really remember though. I did the phone screening just recently to set up the interview..but still contemplating it. I think getting on now would still take around 5 years to get to United at the earliest.. Unless there is a bunch of pilots at CommutAir without prior 121 or college degrees. Then it might be a good deal.

That's really not too good. If United Hires 400 in a year which is a ton of pilots then 5% of that plus dividing that by 12 months is like just over 2 pilots a month.

10% of the pilots will definitely be a better deal.

Still it provides movement all year round and that's a good thing. Good Luck and Enjoy!!!

Yeah--but you have to remember CommutAir is going to (attempt) to more than double in size.

If they scale up from 230 to 500 pilots, that 10% becomes 50 pilots a year. Not bad for those 230 guys already on property--or the first few classes.

I wish there were more details published in an official document--like Piedmont had a pretty solid ALPA LOA laying out the terms & conditions of the agreement. CommutAir is going to need something official like that if they're going to keep the classes full of LXJ/TSA guys imho.
