Travel Guitars
Hey folks! Just wondering if there any fellow guitarist on her than carried a traveling guitar while flying the line
|
I've seen a couple of Martin Backpackers about. I play myself but never felt the need to drag yet another item around with me on a 4 day. The longer you do this job the more you pare down the crap you haul around with you.
|
A mandolin is fairly doable if you can tolerate the complaints from adjacent hotel rooms. I decided I couldn't.

I like the idea, but like JetDoc said, I cant bring myself to drag it around. But you should! And then let's do some trips together :D |
Last month, I bought a Traveler Guitar Ultra-Light and generally bring it on trips (except when I have Mexico overnights. I do not feel like getting it confiscated down there).
https://www.guitarcenter.com/Travele...#productDetail It comes with a gig bag and a "stethoscope" (technically called a "stethophone" for battery-free natural sound) along with a detachable lap rest for portability. Great tone/sound, worth every penny. It is almost as if they designed it specifically for pilots :) |
I agree with the above, which is why I'm trying to budget for one of these https://www.stewartguitars.com/product/stow-away-travel-guitar/ it fits in a laptop soft case. As long as you dont mind lugging the extra weight in your rollaboard or flight bag. Best part is no one will know you have a guitar with you!

Don't forget to budget for the travel cow bell set. It can be a little heavy but if you get a 22 inch bag which should be lighter you'll do just fine. I think Travel Pro makes a combination cow bell and cooler combination. I've even seen guys forgo cans of tuna just so they can get the cowbells into the cooler. That way nobody even know's they have a full cowbell set.

Next FO I fly with that plays cowbell, definitely is getting their first two beers paid for.
|
I have a Little Martin (LXM I think) that I occasionally bring on trips. Sounds great, and small enough size.

|
Who is that FA? She says her name is Maria. |
I use the ultra light travel acoustic, on the 22inch stealth roller in fits in almost perfectly on the side pocket with about 5 inches out the top, if you have your crew cooler on top it’s barely noticeable. Happy shredding 🎸

Sorry, my 12 year old self couldn't help but laugh at that. |

My "Faux"caster. Home built from a kit purchased here, Guitar Kits - Guitar bodies and kits from BYOGuitar
for $129.00. I routed the bridge pick up location for a Seymour Duncan TB-5. Not happy with the way the finish turned out but it sounds really good. It was my first real attempt at building a guitar. Just started a Strat project that I will do a little differently. |
Jeez am I the only one who doesn't play guitar at this company.

There are always rhythm sticks for the tone deaf: https://www.amazon.com/Rhythm-Music-Lummi-Sticks- With KCM, it's even possible you might get them aboard without the TSA pulling you out of the line for carrying nunchucks. |
Nice to see other guitar players here! Look forward to jamming out with you guy sometime! Still trying to figure out what to get down the road! Just bought some new stuff for the Labor day weekend sale at GC. Saw a few travel guitars. Haven't decided which one's best. Thanks for sharing!

I think you have to ware your hat while you jam out in the terminal, it’s company policy.
An open guitar case will do for busking...:D For that matter, we could take up contributions to help pay Skywest FOs a living wage. |

I mean, have you ever even bought a cheeseburger in LGA? A lousy five guys cheeseburger will set you back 8 bucks, and that's without any fries. And don't even think about a crash pad for less than $45 a night unless you want to share a park bench with the homeless. And you are on reserve there like FOREVER. And since you got suckered by the name, SkyWEST, you are probably commuting from KSMF or somewhere else in like you know, THE WEST, which has got to be god-awful. Seriously, Bobby Lee, you ought to have more compassion for these guys. A few coins in the guitar case wouldn't hurt your bottom line all that much, and every little bit helps. Besides, you can put it down on the community service part of your resume. Some majors are big on stuff like that. |

No shots fired. I'm being supportive. They deserve better than a measly $37 an hour to start and no bonus unless you are already type rated or a 135 pilot and even then only $7500.

We need more cowbell...
...true story: A friend of my wife plays bluegrass banjo; she's pretty good. The band leader got him a new girlfriend whom he imposed on the rest as "our newest band member!" She was completely without talent -well, musical talent I guess- so he put her on the washboard. Yep. He actually said it... "We need more washboard!" The band broke up. By way of explanation, Debbie sent him the youtube clip of the cowbell sketch. |
