I wouldn't do it. I would stay at AWAC. You know the ops there and you already have the left seat that you will be waiting 6 months or more on here. Plus we are not getting any flight time right now. I was typed in august and I have only flow about 50 hours since then.....4 a/c and 120 pilots...do the math. With majors starting to hire I think making a move to CP now isn't very prudent. The first guys that went straight to the left seat was an ok deal. Excellent seniority and only a small paycut ($60.41). Now the seniority won't be great and the pay will be $23.18 for 6 months. It takes a long time to recover from that pay and break even for what you would have made sitting at AWAC. The way things are going you should move up over there fairly quickly to a line and the hours will come.

Also thinking about Compass...my situation: Been here just over a year, I'm an FO (obviously), live in DTW and have a pretty long commute right now. I can't upgrade for 2 more years cause of my age. Would it be worth it? I know flow through isn't a guarentee and people think they might be sold off. Plus the merger talks right now.......But flying the 170 out of DTW would be pretty sweet, I'm 40 mins from the airport :D

Colgan has had like 4 or 5 Captains get interviews at NWA with only 400-500 TPIC.
As far as I know they only sent in their application, with no connection. They were mostly 1900 guys too. |

NWA requires "0" PIC Turbine, they do however require 1000 hrs of PIC. I believe UAL only requires 1000 hrs of multi PIC, one again, no turbine requirement. CAL will accept 500 hrs of PIC and 500 hrs of SIC 121 turbine. AirTran only requires 500 hrs of PIC turbine and Delta requires NO PIC Turbine. The only ones that I know of that require 1000 hrs of PIC Turbine are Southwest, FedEx, and UPS. Seeing how old this post is I assume you decided to stay at AWAC, which in my opinion would be the correct choice. You could get to NWA quicker from the left seat at AWAC. I know an applicant that had only 250 hours of PIC turbine when he got the interview call from NWA. He also got the job. |
I am still at AWAC. NWA remains my 1st choice. But I came to AWAC with very, very little PIC time because I was never a CFI before. So I have about 5000 hours 121 time, multi-turbine, but am just now coming up on 500 hours PIC. Frustrating.

No way, stay at AWAC. There's no better upgrade time than now, and you've already made the jump where you are. I think you'd be way better off staying put.

Good move staying at AWAC. Just keep flying and bugging crew scheduling. I still think you can make it to NWA faster from AWAC then if you went to Compass. You have to be at Compass for 30 months, and be a Captain before you're ever eligible to flow up. Plus, there's a AWAC guy starting class with me at NWA on Feb 11th, so that's a seniority bump for you.:D |
