Eagle, ExpressJet or Compass?

I have been trying to avoid the regionals for a while now but it looks like I might be running out of options. What regional would you look into?

flysooner9 11-04-2013 12:08 PM

At this point and time compass. Possible mass movement happening soon and not a horrible contract that's rumored to get better.

How is the average compass applicant compared to other regionals? I've "heard" that it's tough for someone with only CFI experience to get hired there.

Anyone can get hired anywhere at any time it doesn't matter what your qualifications are. Apply, study, work hard and get to know people. Let the airline make the decision about you don't do their job for them.

And to answer the question of the original poster if you are flying lears and challengers why even consider the regionals? Spirt is hiring like crazy and Jet Blue sounds like they are in bad shape. Save yourself the pain and heartache and skip the regionals.

Unless you are out of a job then that is a different story. In such a case I would say Skywest or Compass are the least likely to give you a stroke.

I'm at XJT and have an interview coming up with CPZ. Things at XJT are very stagnant as of now.

The LXJT side isn't. Unfortunately it's luck of draw which side they offer to you but chances are better on the side that is hiring and upgrading more. At least as of now.

Haha, smart man

Compass has Single Engine Mikey now though.

RJ Pilot 11-05-2013 04:03 AM

Compass, EXJ. are good choices. Quicker upgrades and your chances of getting your career ruined are slim to none.

papacharlie 11-05-2013 04:43 AM

Trying to avoid the regionals? Are you qualified for a major? Are you worried about currency?

Bozo the pilot 11-05-2013 06:29 AM

Skywest or compass seem to be the least hated. I was at PDT and RAH- avoid them if you can. For those of you saying to avoid all regionals- Thats not really helping- most guys looking at regionals dont have any other options. If you want to get to a major, you need prior 121 time. Corporate and mil guys can get in but yur NOT goin from CFI to UAL.

Hes not a CFI he has corporate jet time. How much we don't know but probably enough to get on a t spirit or Jet Blue

Also you do not need 121 time to get to a major. There was a guy in my new hire class at UA that was all part 91 flew citations, and I'm sure there are more than just him hired in the last year.

N927EV 11-05-2013 10:15 AM

Where do you want to live? Or where is the easiest commute?

I think I am qualified but not really sure, over 4000TT 2000Jet but I lost my jet job a while back and have only been flight instructing so not sure if they would even look at me.

Compass has a DTW base too, and with all the movement anyone can hold any base right now.

Holy Smokes, what a no-brainer, anyone that worked at XJT or works there now would agree, stay as far away as possible from XJT. Any other airline out there would treat you better then XJT. Run forest run!

In Sept. you posted a question asking what to study for on the ExpressJet interview? Something doesn't pass the sniff test based on your previous posts...

Weren't you the one interested in working at Endeavor Airlines, GoJet, Silver, Piedmont and Martinair?

If you didn't know, ExpressJet has one of the best contract and work rules in the regional industry.

The only thing I can assume about you is you got shot down at the interview, i.e, Express Jet decided you were not a good fit for them!!!!

That being said, good luck with GoJet and Pinnacle and all the other regionals that you will get on with.

Trolllllllllll (had to make it 10 characters).

BeechedJet 11-05-2013 03:23 PM

Maybe slight off topic but not quite but lets say someone gets class dates at both Eagle and XJT, in what circumstance would it be smarter to choose Eagle over XJT or vice versa?

In no circumstance should anyone choose Eagle over any other regional save maybe Endeavour.

Hurryage65 11-05-2013 03:48 PM

Xjt def over eagle. Way better contract and whoever said it is stagnant here? I've moved up 100 slots this year and I'm CRJ, let alone even more on ERJ and continuous hiring behind, this with majors just only starting to ramp up now.

Sure, I moved 100 numbers las month at eagle. 700 numbers up since I got hired in 2010.

Everything is relative, Eagle will keep losing CAs indefinitely to AA. Also add the ones that goes to other places. We are losing about 50 pilots a month or more.

Not because it have the "better contract" now it means it will have it tomorrow. We signed a 8 year contract, Xjet is in negotiations and wait soon to get whipsaw it with Skywest and other places.

There's no better regional. All of them are crappy, everything depends where he is willing to live and which one gives them the best options for him.

There are much worse places to be than here. Could it be better? Yes, but it could be a LOT worse. I'm in my 4th year and still enjoy going to work.

Even better yet, you're on 4th year pay and you'll still get a pay raise next year. That's not true everywhere...

Bankruptcy contract, shrinking, extremely long upgrade time, no commutable trips, closing bases, etc.

I honestly can't think of one reason to go to eagle.

We've know they had the option to meter based on "best efforts" that's what our guys who negotiated the language agreed to, we have to live with that.

Rumor is they're going to offer us another "improved" worthless flow program in exchange for more concessions, what a joke.
