If you call them, its pronounced "coke."

Its Wichita living, which means, great place to raise a family, kinda quiet if you're single.

I know of a couple of pilots that worked for them and did not like it very well. Unfortunately, I do not know why they did not like it. Employees joke that Koch stands for "Keeping Old Charley Happy."

up again

I drug this thread up after all this time, because the pilot job listed below keeps coming up in Wichita over and again. Third or fourth time this year. Anyone know the inside scoop on this job? Adding a Challenger soon, is one rumor I have heard. Koch is a huge company with global flight ops.

Pilot for Koch Industries (Wichita)

The wife of a friend of mine works very high up in the accounting department in Wichita for Koch. He is a former Air Force C130 pilot, former LCC captain, former major airline pilot, and has 3 or 4 General Aviation jet type ratings, AND he lives in Wichita, but can't get on. Apparently, they are very picky.

Wow. Koch Industries has a patriarchal style, and they are famous for right-end political activity as well. Maybe he doesn't meet their comfort level since pilots are close to the brass. That would explain their having to heavily advertise a job that normally you would not have to advertise for at all.

Lots of news about these guys in the past days. Seem really happy to want to over throw the government and stay as rich as possible.

Sounds like a job with them would always involve walking on eggshells.

My guess is they are hiring and firing pilots as an almost weekly affair. Most corporations with 6-8 jets can staff the flight department without having to advertise externally at all. Corporate flight departments tend to be known in the pilot community, and a name itself is usually more than enough to draw resumes. The only time you see an ad is when they are trying to comply with unfair hiring practices and an ad will pop up and disappear in the internal job board. Going public and staying there like this is pretty unusual.

I love the position summary!

Check aircraft prior to flights to ensure that the engines, controls, instruments, and other systems are functioning properly

Start engines, operate controls, and pilot airplanes to transport passengers according to flight plans, regulations, and procedures

Monitor engine operation, fuel consumption, and functioning of aircraft systems during flights

Consider airport altitudes, outside temperatures, plane weights, and wind speeds and directions to calculate the speed needed to become airborne

Plan flights according to government and company regulations, using aeronautical charts and navigation instruments

Check baggage or cargo to ensure that it has been loaded correctly

This is so critical, I am glad that they want us thinking about this stuff. I am going to write this down some where.
