There are a lot of days where my boss says "we won't need you for this stretch of time" which is why I liked the offer from company B. This also wasn't directly from the boss, but someone else at the company "and yes it was a woman"

HaHa!! So in other words you best be around and ready to go.

FWIW.... a couple weeks ago my boss was going as a guest to South Dakota on another plane so I thought this would be 3 days with no calls. Well the first day at 7am he calls and says their plane broke down and to be ready if it doesnt get fixed, which it didnt. So, my 3 days off turned into 3 days in SD.

In the corporate world you are really being paid for being available not to fly. At least that is the way it is viewed by most owners or operators. Your owner regardless of what they say has "bought" your time for the year. Similiar to how ailines buy your 1000 hours of flight time a year. That is the main reason my new job has hard days off, so I can do what I want, when I want, and can fly for whoever or whatever I want as long as it does not interfere with the 135 rest and flight time rules. Don't say they don't exist, because they do. They are just extemely hard jobs to find because nobody quits them. I have been trying since 2001 to get hired by my current company and finally did earlier this year.

What? Are you serious? They can't do that. It has nothing to do with company "A". Sometimes companies make you sign a non-compete contract. But it's not like you are stealing charter work from them. Ridiculous. I fly 91 and I can do whatever I want to make extra money on the side. As long as it doesn’t interfere with my main job. I made 400 bones the other day flying some other guy’s King Air.

I fly for a Fortune 20 flight department. I also do some outside flying if I am contacted. I get to get keep 100% of what I make. But when I get called I make sure I ask my boss if I can do it, even if I am not on the schedule that day. There have been times he has even changed the schedule and taken me off a trip so that I can go make money somewhere else. The guys I fly with are all good guys and don't have a problem with that. We all cover for each other.

We have a couple of guys who get alot of time off to fly in the AF Reserves. Since he has to give guys time off to do that and they get paid to do it he thinks it's only fair that if I get a chance to make money on the side.
