I interviewed with a company that wanted me to pay for my type ($10k). I tried negotiating them paying me back over 12 months, but they wouldn't hear anything of the sort.
They simply said, "this is the way the industry is now"... so I politely told them no thanks.
I'm still looking for work =/
But it's the principle of it.. for them to expect me to pay for initial type and not even try and negotiate with me.. must mean there are plenty of guys out there willing to pay for the type, and that's sad.

I had a charter company pay for my first type, LR-JET, and the biggest airplane I had flown was a Baron (2600TT, 700ME, ZERO turbine). Got my ATP during the type checkride too. No excuse for paying for your own rating- I am glad I got into the game before this type of thinking takes over, you guys will eat yourselves alive...

Did you have help from someone on the inside of the company??? Was it unusual for the company to type someone with no turbine time???

Hard work, networking, and a little bit of luck. Sometimes your break comes a year or two after you want it to come. Trust me, I was frustrated trying to break into the corp. world myself and it happened when I wasn't even looking.

No, I didnt know anyone at the company- I simply responded to an ad on climbto350.com. The company had no problem hiring FO's with 2000TT and 500ME with no jet time.

Hey Jax, I don't know if anyone else had said it before, but I believe you may want to try Bank of America. They seem to be the only people left that are still willing to finance some of the local flight schools for training. I think the interest rates were at the 12-13% area. Good luck.
