Default Training from zero.

Hello all...

Here's my first post here. I'm seriously considering a career change to the corperate flight world from law enforcement and I am looking for some training direction advice. I've looked at ATP flightschool and Flight Safety Academy (both in FLA.) I can work on my PPL here in NY then go to ATP for their 90 day course($45,000) or move to FLA and attend Flight Safety for their 1 1/2 year program ($76,000). Flight Safety Academy advertises themselves as the best corperate pilot training school in the world and offers job placement assistance.

OK guys let me know what you think, you're the experts.

You might also check out American Flyers I've heard some good things about their program and the attention given to each individual. (But can't vouch for them myself since I don't have any personal experience with them).

I have heard some horror stories through about ATP.

What horror stories? I've heard nothing but positive information on ATPs programs.

The stories come from the ATP program in Washington DC. Stories included excessive charges for instructor time (that was never given), unorganzied training/not following the syllabus, and instructors sending unprepared students to checkrides (due to a train to the checkride line of thought). I heard stories from two instrument students that went to a checkride and were so dependant on the GPS (because the instructors were) that they failed their checkrides after the DE turned the GPS off.

All second hand info, but enough to cause me some doubts. I know two people that have gone from ATP to American Flyers and are much more satisfied.

If you really want to go corporate, I'd say it doesn't matter so much where you do your training. Corporate is about networking and knowing the right people. A good way to do that is some of the internships the large recurrent training outfits offer where you work as a "fill in" F/O in the sim. FSA has a specific program leading to this but I've heard guys getting into it other ways. Simuflight comes to mind. Do some googling.

Here is the school I taught at and HIGHLY recommend it. www.parisair.com
It is right across from Flight Safety (I went there and HATED it, it was SO para-military.) Paris is a nice guy, employs his students and I got 500 ME hours in 11 months teaching there. He flys NICE Seneca's and Archers and they are really nicely out-fitted. PM me for more info. I have a lot of experience in the training world and can give you some good advice. PM me if you want more info! I am NOT selling this school for any reason except they do things a bit differently and how they do it really makes a LOT of sense.

I have heard my share of horror stories from ATPs. Here is what seems to be the jist...the instructors are barely more than students and have little idea about what's going on. Hey, don't flame me, it's what I have heard from 5 or 6 people (one was an instructor there,) I wasn't an instructor there and I don't know first hand.
