He referes to himself as "Top Gun", is anyone suprised that he is an arrogant prick.
With 22,000 hrs, I'm still a time builder with a lot to learn. My 20,000 hrs in jets are mostly in cruise flight, in the sunshine with the auto pilot on. Who would consider that more valuable than 1000 hrs flying night freight in a Baron, Beech 18 or a King Air? Those are the hours that have my respect! When I was flying PIC in 20 series Lears with LESS than 2000hrs total time I was probably as good as I will ever be.
Time and experience are important but its more about attitude. Zyttocs, yours is great and Top Gun appears to be a condescending bully. Bet he's a blast to fly with.
Zyttocs, I'll put my loved ones on your airplane before top gun's, any day!

Give a kid a break

I know you are excited about the thought of flying the Ultra single pilot. You will do fine I believe. Heck If I can fly it then a monkey can fly it. We have found that the insurance savings that you will see by flying the Ultra dual pilot will more than pay for an SIC's trng and salary. This way you save some money, increase safety and give another young pilot a chance to build some time so in effect you are paying it forward. Good luck to you.

Can't speak for an Ultra, but SP insurance on our 2009 CJ2+ is less than $4k/year higher than dual crew...

Couldn't have said it better myself!

Should I be there yesterday?

I've said it 100,000 times. Having a 2nd body up front does not necessarily = safer. It really depends on who it is, how they're trained and how they're utilized.

Even in this economy i'd doubt that cockpit help including medical benefits, out of town expenses, holiday pay, etc. can be had for less than $4,000.

Or are you just passing 30k hours?

A bit more than 1/10th of that.

Don't believe half of what you hear regarding insurance...

Lots of insurance is who you know and who they know. If your agent is buddy-buddy with the underwriter, you can get just about anything. Of course, if you're willing to part with enough money you can get anything.

A properly trained and QUALIFIED ]crew member with a Captain properely trained in CRM is ALWAYS safer than a single pilot operation.
It is the resposibility of the Captain/Director of Operations to only place a hghly competent individual in the right seat. Someone to build time while in the seat is the last thing you want.

The record speaks for itself (per NBAA 2008 stats). 2 pilot professionally flown aircraft have a safety record greater than 9 times than a similar single pilot operation.

Give the best you can to your passengers, it will always include an experienced, professional 2 pilot crew.
