Hello all;
I am currently doing some conceptual research for launching a GIS (Geographical Information Systems) web based application for flight planning, chartering and tracking.
As of this point, the application will have three main modes:
The interface customizes according to the mode, and all the information is super imposed on a map. Controls allow for layer display Hide/show functions for data layers such as Navaids, Sat Imagery, Roads, weather, charts....etc. Data is maintained current through FAA published datafiles. Flight planning mode will provide advanced functionality such as the automatic generation of routes based on "Least Time", "Least Fuel Consumption", "Highest Alt Allowed"...and others. The flight chartering process will be designed to allow maximum automation by allowing users to select dept and arrv cities, and have the network connect with our partners/operators to generate required work orders.
Shall we launch, we will start providing coverage in Northern America, and if successful, cover more continents.
I am aware that this will require quite a bit of work. What I would like is some concept feedback from Operators as to what they would like to see in such an application? Any input is highly appreciated.
Regards;

Your proposal looks interesting, but you are going to have some stiff competition from various products and websites that already provide these services.
One of the obstacles that we face as a company are continually evaluating cost/profit margins on charter flights. With fuel costs varying so widely between locations it's hard to come up with just one rule of thumb to keep the flights in the black and still be competitive within the industry.
If you could reinvent some kind of cost analysis then you might be onto something.
But as of right now our pilots use fltplan.com for domestic flight planning, a Jeppesen product for oceanic, and Universal for most other things. For tracking we have a company subscription to flight tracker (I believe). But who knows if you're product is price competitive we could re-evaluate our options.

I think we are in need of a free product such as Flight Plan.com that will allow us to file International ICAO flight plans... This would save flight departments alot of cash every year.
