Valencia Venezuela SVVA
Anybody fly into Valencia in the last 6 months? Our company is considering a trip in the near future and I haven't been down there since last year. Trying to get a feel for any security issues we may have.

What type of security issues are you concerened about? Aircraft security, personal security, etc?
I understand that on certain occasions it has been very difficult to remain overnight as Chavez does not care for N registered aircraft on his soil. A few years ago we operated into Margharita Island, Venezuela and could not remain overnight. Instead we dropped passengers and continued to Aruba (About 45 minutes away) empty. The aircraft was safe and so was the crew.
This varies day to day and aircraft to aircraft. Definately us a handler (I prefer Universal). I have been to that region quite a bit and I have never had a problem. Just make sure that you bring alot of cash and keep it hidden. Most handlers will not take fuel cards or credit. Yes, they are all very crooked, however we are on their turf.
I try not to wander to far away from the hotel. Unless you are from there you will stick out like a soar thumb and people will try to take advantage of you. Like anywhere with an unstable political climate use common sense and "listen to the streets".
As far as aircraft security, it should not be a problem. Part 121 carriers fly in and out of that airport from multiple destinations. I know that Copa flys there from PTY (Panama City).
Also try to use security stickers on all panels that open and entry/ exit points. Best of luck on your trip.
