Flights blocked from tracking sites ?
Just read about this special deal that Business aircraft and others, that are members of NBAA and other entities have been receiving the special flight information blocking protections. USATODAY reported it recently.
The big claim has been SECURITY. So what about everyone else that does not know about this program or cannot afford or want to pay the bucks to NBAA to get this special deal ?
I was needless to say incensed at the thought that FAA has allowed for such blatant and arrogant misuse of PUBLIC information, to be witheld by a select group of corporations and individuals.
My gut tells me that once again, in this great land of ours, there is always going to be some entity or agenda to promote so called protections, as long as it is paid for.
Either everyone gets the same treatment or no one should be getting it.

Are you mad because the FAA is providing a live data feed of targets from the TRACON to the internet, or are you mad because some people with more money that you are blocking their movements?

Google the BARR program; you'll find all you want to know (including that its FREE).
As far as "public information" goes...its no more your business to know where our airplane flies to than it is my business to know where your car drives to.
Fred Smith evidently feels the same way, because all eleven of FedEx's business jets are blocked.

Is not about safety or security, its about privacy...cannot even begin to imagine what would happen if the papparazzi and/or media could track any tail number they wanted.... you'd see some of them hanging from the ILS antenna, or maybe hidding behind the airfield's VOR, etc...

TNflyboy, these guys are right on the money. It isn't a massive cover-up, these are private citizens who don't feel the need to disclose their every travel move to the public. The BARR program is absolutely free (although, like many services there are those willing to set it up for money and those willing to pay said money).
As a sidenote, I'm concerned that your best news source for aviation was USAToday. Most guys in this industry aren't getting their news from sources like that. While we often read or watch the reports, it usually involves laughing at poor reporting or being baffled by the misinformation presented by most major newsgroups. The honest truth is that most newsgroups, like the general public, have little to no base knowledge required to understand changes in regulation, policy, etc. Sometimes I feel like we're in the same boat! I'm encouraging you to look for better resources for aviation news. A good place to start would be to ask your fellow aviators what they like to read or where they get their news.

you think the execs at outfits like Coke or Home Depot or other big companies travelling internationally want their schedules published for anyone to see? When airplanes are hardened and equipped with encrypted comm, security is a big issue.
