Default G150 questions

I have a chance at a G150 job. Just wondering from anyone on here that has actually flown the plane what its like?

What can the plane do mission wise? Is it a complicated POS system wise?

Whats it like to fly? Give me the scoop!

Don't know a thing about it. But if you take the job, just don't be like the guy I saw in TEB last year.

Gulfstream leather jacket, gulfstream bag, gulfstream swagger/ego. In general just a bit full of himself and proud of his status as a mighty gulfstream pilot.

I can understand that maybe if you fly a G550 or G650. But he looked like a total arsehat when he demanded that his might 150 be towed up closer to the FBO to the door.

Disclaimer: Not all Gulfstream pilots are d-bags... Just most of them. (Kidding!)

Did a demo flight on one about 2.5 years ago.

Nice cabin for a midsize...little short compared to others, but very nice cross-section. Entry door area is noisy in flight and there is a curtain to go across it...no big deal.

Decent baggage, though you need a step ladder and a boat hook to reach the whole way into it.

Excellent PL21 avionics with IRU as an option for overwater/international flying.

Not a great climber at altitude when ISA+...but fast & fuel efficient compared to competing midsize airframes.

So easy to land a straight-wing Citation pilot can do it.

Runway performance when hot and/or heavy not bad, but not great.

We did have one of the infamous Astra/G100 slat & flap fail issues during our G150 demo...needless to say Gulfstream was NOT happy about it. I'm told that is definitely the exception, vs. the norm...a mechanic reset a few breakers and we were good to go.

HA! Funny stuff there Josh! I know the type. If the money is right I dont care what the plane is. I just hear alot of bad things about the G200 and was worried about the 150 being on the same level.

I have been operating/managing the G150 for over the past 12 months, approx 500 hrs.

Our normal mission includes 3-4 pax, avg 2.5 hrs stage length, all domestic, runways >5000'.

We operate at Max Cruise FL390 to FL410 at TAS 460. Fuel burns: #2000 1st hr, 1500# 2nd hr, 1400# 3rd, 1300#, thereafter. When we are crossing the country, east to west, we will fly a constant Mach at .75 - .76 (430 TAS). LRC in the books is something like .69 - .79 in the mid FL300's.

The systems are very straight forward (see smartcockpit.com for the books). All DC electrical system, 2 hyd systems (main and aux), conventional flight controls (ailerons hyd assisted), deice on wings is via boot (works well, does not pick up much ice). The fuel system is interesting, as it holds 10300# pound of fuel in essentially 4 tanks. All passive (no xfer valves or pumps needs to maintain cg)

The Proline 21 is superb. We do not have the IRU option. Dual File servers makes it paperless and overlay weather is option (XM or universal).

Easy to hand fly and Land.

The items that are concerning:
-aft CG. We can go east to west across the country with about 9700# to 10000#'s of fuel at Take off(burn is about 8300 - 8500). However, if you must utilize all 10,300 of fuel or pax have alot of bags, a very thorough w & b is needed. Moving pax or ballast may be needed
-baggage door is small and in most cases a step ladder is needed. Our pax travel with duffel bags, therefore it is not an issue to us. If ski's or golf clubs are the norm, it is a major pita
- the flap/slat system is an issue fleetwide. We have not had a failure (yet) in the g150. I've experience multiple failures in the G100 and astra.
-Brakes are expensive, expect only 250 landings or so.

Hope you aren't very big..a friend showed me the one he flies, and you would have to grease me up to get me in and out of the cockpit..anyone a few inches over average height would not be too comfy in there

For a medium size Jet, there is plenty of room in the cockpit, bigger than and lr 60, excel, astra. If anything, just a bit smaller than a hawker.


What are you comparing it too??? an Airliner?? It is a medium size jet, not a super mid-size or Large cabin.

He's probably comparing it to a stretch Challenger cockpit...dude would probably freak at a 500-series Citation or 30-series Lear cockpit.
