This is what has me filling out applications right now. Although I'm sure there are perfect part 91 jobs out there, a little anonymity would feel good sometimes. Especially when you're the 1 person in a 1-plane gig.

That, and I can't seem to convince the principals in this non-aviation company that there is no such thing as a "part-time" pilot. In particular, there is no "part-time" pilot who is on call 24/7/365 and flies (and manages) a single-pilot jet 300 hours a year. When I show them the comps during salary negotiations, they toss them over their shoulder and say "yeah, but what does a private, part-time pilot make?"

Best thing I ever did was to walk away from flying a gulfstream 28 days a month for 100k a year, to skywest for 18 months to build my TT, then onto virgin america. I have zero regrets, and I am so stoked I made the jump.

I work about 12-15 days a month, not always gone that many; enjoy flying a Global and the trips are like a vacation--mostly several days off not usually in at 9pm, out 12 hours later.

Flying (other than local trips) is usually bad for your health and family. All things in moderation...

If you can get over six figures to do 12 sim bounces/year, that would be the sensible thing to do. Buy an airplane and fly it as much as you want in all your spare time.

Personally I'd like to fly a little more than six times a year, but that schedule would enable a lot of other things.

6 times a year's is not moderate! If you don't want to fly, go places, see things, why did you become a pilot?

I love flying too. But I love being in my own bed with my wife more. So I find ways to maximize pay and minimize work. Such is the beauty of 121 major flying and some seniority.

^I hear you. That being said, I can work 12 days a month moving laterally should a issue arise within my company. That cannot be said in the 121 environment. If we have learned anything from this thread, it should emphasize the 2 very different paths this industry provides to rate success. That's a good thing in my humble opinion

I agree. This thread has definitely validated for me what I personally have always believed to be true. There are certainty some top tier corporate jobs out there. However most are not and those that are can quickly deteriorate into mush. Just as the path to a nice cushy major takes some time swimming through the muck. Those who make it to the majors enjoy superior pay, qol, and benefits. Those who make it to a top tier corporate job enjoy close to the same. The only difference is there are a lot more 121 major jobs.
