Marriott goes Cheap!!!
 

Just wanted to let everyone know that Marriott has stopped honoring nights booked with any kind of travel industry rate for their rewards program. They stated that it has always been in the contract but corporate wants this enforced now. So all those rooms booked by your corporate department under a travel rate will no longer count to your platinum status for nights or points. May not affect everyone but I know it has affected many of my friends. Best thing customer service says is to call and complain and maybe a loud enough voice will get them to reverse their stance. If not Hilton here I come!!

Who specifically did you speak with?
I called the platinum desk and spoke with local Marriott people and all say that the TVL rate is still good for points and nights.

Trouble is misinformation within Marriott.

TVL is NOT a contract rate!!

I spoke with platinum desk as well and they said TVL and G2D are contract rates and refused to give points and nights for four stays already this year. Are you still getting points and nights for all stays this year?

Yes....until my last stay which hasn't posted. It should have by now.
TVL rate change and sometimes aren't available. Not sure how they consider this a "contract" rate.

If Marriott stand it's ground on this, they stand to loose more than they would gain

alright....just spoke with a supervisor at Marriott Rewards program.

He says that contract, wholesale, national negotiated rates are not and have not been eligible for points and nights. TVL is considered a wholesale rate. The TVL rate has been "slipping" through the system for years and now they are enforcing the rule. He feels that there isn't going to be any change to the rule.

He has been hearing quite a lot feedback on this and they discuss it at their weekly meetings. I hope Marriott corporate listens to their people before the balance sheet reflects all those who walked away.

Hilton must be salivating at all that new business coming there way.
This is a classic case of stepping over dollars as you pick up pennies!

I was just told as well over the phone by Marriott that the TVL rate DOES NOT qualify for points or stay credit and they have begun enforcing it. I just sent my letter to Marriott voicing my displeasure and cancelled two upcoming stays booked with the rate. I'll stay elsewhere. How is the Hilton program? (Serious question...looking for somebody who appreciates my business).

IMO Hilton is the weakest of the big 4 hotel elite programs (points value and elite benefits). Hyatt the best, closely followed by Starwood and Marriott, then Hilton. But Hilton has a LOT more properties than Hyatt.

Thanks for the help. Like I said before I've travelled extensively for leisure with my family on our pass benefits but exclusively with Marriott. I'll check out these others for preference.

Here are the terms of the Hilton program,

"3.A "stay" is defined as the total number of consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, whether or not a guest checks out and checks back in again. Specifically excluded from the definition of "stay" are the following types of ineligible stays: wholesale/tour operator packages; contracted crew rates; travel agency discount rates, packages exclusively for casino player card holders; Team Member Travel rates, Hilton Family Travel Rates; stays secured utilizing Hilton Grand Vacations Club and Hilton Club timeshare programs, Hilton Grand Vacations marketing packages with a sales presentation requirement; complimentary or barter rooms."

From what I have been told is that Hilton leaves it up to each property to decide if to award points or not.

I just booked 11 nights at a Hyatt on a corporate rate and got 0 points FWIW.
