Thanks for the video. Very informative except listening to the journalists. Looks like all the guys that said it is just the Flu were probably right and all the guys that called them stupid are just mindless drone's who believe anything their "media" tells them. Just my 2 cents.

I haven't watched it yet but I will. In the meantime I will say that the world is not black or white. It's possible to be wrong without being a mindless sheep and it's possible to get it right just by guessing. So whatever the analysis will show after this is over, does not make a dumb person smart just because he/she happened to have guessed correctly. And let's face it: Those having shouted It's just the flu the moment this arrived on the scene with no evidence to back up their claims can only hope to get lucky.

On the other hand, intelligent and educated people can get it wrong, too. They tend to be able to admit it, though, adjust their opinion and learn from it.

So, I hope the majority of experts and governments were wrong and we will learn this was an overreaction. It will mean fewer people will have died than feared. It will mean we will have learned a valuable lesson. But it's also quite possible that fewer people will have died because of the measures taken. There will always be oversimplifications unfortunately and people will feel strongly about things they know very little about. Yes, don't just blindly trust the media. But don't blindly dismiss expert opinion either. After all, as aviation experts you don't want your expertise questioned by your pax or non-pilot managers. Please extend the same courtesy to the professionals in the field of science.

All of us us pilots know better than to make knee jerk decisions not based on facts.. Yet this is exactly what happened. A classic case of CFIT for the world economy.

Simple answer is because of weak leadership. Its easy as a leader to wholey accept 'expert' advice and just run with it.

Classic modern leadership.

Run with 'expert' advice, parrot that advice, then if it turns out to be incorrect....turn on said expert and blame them. Easy....hands are washed.

I put expert in quotes because we have incorrectly used the word without qualification. Yes they are experts.....experts ina very very narrow field.....instead we have by vortue of calling them experts accepted everything that comees out of their mouth as gosple......even their comments on things waaay outside their field.

Politicians should have garnered a braod range of experts and then decided on a course of action...... Epidemioligists, crisis responers, sociolagists and economists should have all had a seat at the table.

In fact the epedemiologists should have simply defined the problem then stepped back and let the rest speak.

I have said it in other posts..... Todays heros will be tomorrows scapegoats.
